78-YEAR-OLD MAN FATALLY STABBED — 15-YEAR-OLD TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
A quiet Monday night in East St. Louis, Illinois, ended in tragedy after a 78-year-old man was found fatally stabbed in the roadway.
Illinois State Police say officers responded around 10 p.m. to the area of North 76th and State streets, where they discovered the body of John Wesley Allen Sr. of St. Louis.
The coroner later determined that Allen died from multiple stab wounds.
In the period surrounding the killing, neighbors reported seeing a teenager dressed as a clown going door to door, looking into windows and allegedly carrying a large knife.
Even more unsettling, Ring camera footage reportedly captured an individual approaching a nearby home less than an hour before the homicide. The person looked directly into the camera and said:
“I have a gift for you.”
Authorities subsequently took a 15-year-old into custody in connection with Allen’s death. Prosecutors have filed a petition seeking to have the teenager charged as an adult with first-degree murder.
Because the suspect is a minor and the case remains pending, the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding John Wesley Allen Sr.’s death. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact authorities.
A 78-year-old man lost his life, a family is left grieving, and investigators are now working to determine exactly what happened that night.
