A handmade lantern. An afternoon spent creating together. The excitement of carrying it through downtown during the Light Up Corydon Parade. These are the memories families return for year after year.

Each participant receives the same lantern shape—but what it becomes is entirely up to their imagination. Will yours become a snowman? A gingerbread cookie? A Christmas tree? A penguin? A masterpiece all your own?

A holiday tradition starts with a little creativity.

For years, families have gathered to create colorful lanterns that light up the streets of Corydon during the Light Up Corydon Parade. Every lantern is one-of-a-kind, decorated with pom-poms, ribbon, paint, glitter, favorite colors, and plenty of imagination.

Whether it's your child's first lantern or a tradition your family looks forward to every year, we'd love for you to join us in creating a little holiday magic together.

Kevin Rose Schultz, an artist and former art educator from Floyds K***s, Indiana, has earned top honors—including a first-place blue ribbon in the Fine Arts division—for her cyanotype photography and mixed-media fiber art at the Kentucky State Fair. This is my favorite piece in Honoring Brian Jones: Log Jam.

Photos don't do it justice. The layered textures, the intricate details, and the way the reflections seem to shift as you move are something you can only appreciate in person. Every time I look at it, I notice something I missed before.

If you've been meaning to stop by Harrison County Arts, this is your sign. Honoring Brian Jones is on display through September 5, and it's a beautiful reminder that some artwork simply has to be experienced with your own eyes. I hope you'll come see it for yourself.
