Thursdays and Saturdays 10:00am-1:00pm. Discover Local History at the Corry Area Historical Society Museum! Have you ever wondered about the stories that shaped Corry and the surrounding area? The Corry Area Historical Society Museum invites you to embark on a fascinating journey through our local past! Our story began with a dedicated search in 1959, culminating in the formation of the Society on June 1, 1965. Driven by the desire to preserve a piece of Corry's industrial heritage – a coal-fired Climax locomotive built right here until 1930 – a passionate group of individuals embarked on a mission. Their efforts led to the acquisition of a Climax engine, which found its permanent home in our museum. From this initial spark of preservation, the Corry Area Historical Society, Inc. grew. Through the tireless dedication of volunteers and the generous support of the community, our museum evolved from a simple enclosure for the Climax engine into a sprawling repository of local history. Today, our museum houses over 15,000 artifacts within 12,000 square feet, offering a captivating glimpse into the 250 square miles that make up the Corry Area School District. We've recently revitalized our displays and made significant improvements to our building, ensuring a more engaging and secure experience for all our visitors. Delve into a treasure trove of photographs, maps, genealogical records, and meticulously organized newspaper clippings, offering invaluable insights into local families, organizations, businesses, and events. The best part? Admission to the Corry Area Historical Society Museum is absolutely FREE! While donations are always gratefully accepted and crucial to our continued operation, there is no obligation to pay to experience the rich tapestry of our local heritage. We warmly invite you to visit the Corry Area Historical Society Museum and discover the fascinating stories that make our community unique. Whether you're a lifelong resident or a curious visitor, there's something for everyone to learn and appreciate. Be sure to revisit the museum and our website often to see all the exciting new developments! We look forward to welcoming you!

On Thursday, November 5th, John Seitz returns to Corry for another book reading and signing. John, the author of last year’s successful memoir, Corry Stories, will be reading selections from his new book: Everyday People, Ordinary Places.

The collection of more than fifty true stories illuminates just how special everyday people are and how interesting ordinary places can be. From a little boy marching in a parade with his fireman father, to the hidden history of a common lunchbox; ever present are the positive themes of kindness and love.

Everyone has stories that document just how interestingly they are living their lives. Come to the early evening reading and, as you encounter John’s stories, you’ll be encouraged to recall and relate some of your own. Stories go better with some sweets. A selection of cookies and brownies will appear.

The event is a collaboration between Corry Hi-Ed and Corry Public Library. It will be held at the Corry Public Library (117 W. Washington, Corry, PA 16407) on Thursday, November 5th from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of books will be cheerfully donated to the library.

This is a free event, but registration is required by visiting the Corry Hi-Ed website www.corryhied.org or by calling the Hi-Ed at (814) 664-9405.

We recently lost a dear member of the museum, Loretta Beckerink. Her roles included Secretary and long-time Board Director. She will be dearly missed.
