Here's your Beanhole Beans and how they are cooked. For large amounts, a cast iron pot like a cauldron is used to accommodate the number of pounds of beans to be cooked. Smaller cast iron utensils are used for families or small groups. In Maine most of the large group serving happens at regional fairs or historical venues, such as Maine Forest and Logging Museum at Bradley, Maine, and Common Ground Fair. This is the time of year for beanhole beans as the weather gets cooler heading into Fall. 🍲🫕

What we need is a little more Moxie! Moxie is the official state soft drink of Maine. The Maine Legislature gave it this title on May 10, 2005. History and Origin: Moxie was created in 1876 by Dr. Augustin Thompson, a Maine native. It was first sold as a medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food" to cure various health issues from softening of the brain to ulcers as most old time elixirs were advertised to do everything. Later it was changed into a carbonated soda. It's named after a fictional Lieutenant Moxie who supposedly found the plant root used in the drink.

In the News, the Fourth of July celebrations planned in East Corinth in 1898. The term "fantastics" in 1898 historically referred to traditional masked, costumed mummers, cross-dressers, or impromptu community parade groups ("ancient and horribles" or "fantastics") that marched through towns during holiday and patriotic celebrations. It does not refer to a structured modern marching band show, though 1898 was a landmark year for the birth of iconic marches staging noisy, informal street processions during holidays or civic festivals.
