Have extra rocks in your house, garage, in your cupboards, on your table, on the patio, in the shed, or in your vehicle?!?! We really could use some quarter to golf ball-sized examples of the following materials for our Teacher Kits that we hand out for free to teachers. We have some of these in storage and I'm already thinking of some fun trips that Brenda and I can make to gather material ourselves. But, we'd like to "express" the effort and increase by several fold the number of kits that we can make available. I can pick up any donation and will send a thank you donation letter. Of special need would be the fossil brachiopods and corals--our remaining brachs are not worthy of kit assembly. We have gone through a ton of these in our free Fossil Dig in the museum and we are OUT of the wonderful fossil coral in the Fossil Dig and had to switch to fossil gastropods. Many thanks for your consideration!

Also, if you know of a great spot in central Arizona where one can reasonably pick up a bunch of these please contact me at [email protected] or 602.312.9792.

Many thanks,
Dana

Congratulations Lynn Parsons at the Coolidge Chamber of Commerce!!

Christine and I were honored to be present this morning to celebrate and honor Lynn’s longtime commitment to the community. Lynn and the CCC has been ardent supporters of the Pinal Geology and Mineral Museum and we are grateful for her help and support.

We were pleased to present a gorgeous specimen of Noreena Jasper from Australia along with a custom nameplate. Museum founder Dr. Raymond Grant handpicked this stunning piece! We also commissioned a beautiful charoite pendant (purple is her favorite color!) from a piece that Ray brought back from Russia.

The staff at the CCC did an incredible job of preparing the office for the celebration. Everything looked perfect and the place filled up in a hurry! The mayor stopped in and helped Lynn cut the cake and the outpouring of appreciation and affection was obvious—thank you Lynn and the CCC!

Enjoy the next chapter in your life!!

Thank you Dani and the staff at the Coolidge Public Library!

The Pinal Geology and Mineral Museum was invited to participate in a special “Unearth a Story” event organized by the Coolidge Public Library from 10am-noon on Thursday May 28.

The sky was slightly overcast and there was a refreshing breeze—absolutely perfect for the outdoor event. We set up three tables with real fossils and fossil casts along with a couple large mineral specimens and brought a portable version of our hugely popular free Fossil Dig that held fossil crinoid stems, fossil oyster shells, and fossil shark teeth for kids to find by sifting through sand in a trough-like box. We had to go back and get more fossils!

The crowds were amazing and we gave away many dino-related toys, etc. and gave free raffle tickets away to award to lucky ticket holders whose number was called. We gave away a dozen plastic and wooden prehistoric animal models!

Many thanks to Christine, Erica, and my lovely wife Brenda for all their help!! We needed everyone. Afterward, we enjoyed lunch at Casa Palomino in Coolidge (and that’s not payola!)—a day well spent!

Thank you Dani and the CPL for the invite and for putting together a fabulous free community and family event!!

Come check out our $1 (yes, only a buck!) egg carton collection!! Choose from nearly 30 different specimens (amber, bornite, calcite, galena, hematite, opal, petrified wood, etc.) and choose your own 12 specimens with labels for just a buck! Are we crazy??!! Just maybe…but we love sharing our passion for all things geological! Let’s rock👍👍
We are located at 351 N. Arizona Blvd., Coolidge, AZ 85128

Many thanks to Christine for the new signage!

A member from an Arizona club stopped by our Arizona Fossil Fest on May 9 and said that "You're giving those away!" in reference to our egg carton table set up. Not quite....but close. All the specimens and egg cartons are donated and some of the specimens are personally collected--just added personally collected Apache tear obsidian nodules, Carlota mine chrysocolla, and Tonto Basin satin spar gypsum. Some of the remainder is personally collected too!
