NATURE'S CANVAS featured artist of the day: Judith Phelps
Judith lives in Battleground, WA. She combines a variety of techniques to create each quilt, but states in an interview that thread painting is one of her favorite methods. Many of the pieces displayed on her website come from challenges hosted by different quilting groups she participates in. From songs, to colors, to nature as a whole, Phelps is inspired by life itself.judith

NATURE'S CANVAS featured artist of the day: JEAN HOWARD
“Nature evokes beauty and calm and sometimes a whimsical sense of humor. Nature is an invitation to create. Combining my family tradition of quilt-making and working the land I use traditional methods to create lyrical designs,” says Howard.

Using colorful hand-dyed and commercial fabrics Jean Howard stitches the exquisite colors, lines, curves and shapes found in nature. From the purple prairie coneflowers of her windswept Missouri front yard, to the columbine in the protected woodlands behind her home, trees and flowers are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Howard's art quilts.

In our current exhibit, Nature's Canvas, Howard has “Botanicals 3: Winterscape,” 2021 from her Botanicals Series.

The WMA is open this summer Tue-Fri 12-4 p.m., and Sat 12-6 p.m.

NATURE'S CANVAS featured artist of the day: BETTY SCARPINO
Betty Scarpino was born in Wenatchee, WA. Throughout her career working with wood, Scarpino has been recognized as one of the leading wood artists in the fields of sculpture, woodturning, woodcarving, and woodcut printmaking. Her work is represented in the permanent collections of more than twenty museums and she now lives in Indianapolis, IN.

In our current exhibit: Nature's Canvas, Scarpino has two works featured. Tidal Wave (2021) and Woven with the Wind (2022).

The WMA is open this summer Tue-Fri 12-4 p.m., and Sat 12-6 p.m.

Opening Today! - Nature's Canvas, an exhibition of fine textiles and turned wood.

Summer Hours: Mon-Fri, 12-4 p.m., Sat, 12-7 p.m.

From the dawn of prehistoric creativity to the present day, humans have harnessed the beauty of wood and the versatility of fibers to craft extraordinary works of art. Artists from the American Association of Woodturners and Studio Art Quilt Associates were selected for this collaborative exhibition showcasing the timeless synergy between these two mediums.
