Hot off the press!!

We know many of you have been on the hunt for a copy of our 1981 edition of The History of Gilliam County, OR. We've heard your requests and are officially able to offer a second printing for purchase! In partnership with Journal Prints of Condon, we were able to deconstruct, digitize, and print copies of this highly cherished book.

We'll be selling them tomorrow alongside the Gilliam County Public Library at their annual 4th of July book sale in the Memorial Hall. Find us there from 10:00-2:00 and get yourself a book!

If you're unable to make it in person tomorrow, we'll continue to sell them at the Museum Depot and The Mezzanine at the Chamber. If you would like one shipped to you, we can offer that, too!

In April we had the honor of opening the museum up early for a group of classic car enthusiasts! They arrived in their vintage Alfa Romeos and set out to explore the museum grounds - it was quite the turn out! We are always so thrilled when groups such as the Alfa Romeo Owners of Oregon - AROO choose our rural community as a stopping point. Not only were they at the museum learning about what made our region what it is today, but I also spotted them later that night downtown Condon enjoying all the aspects of what makes up our community today - friendly faces, family roots, historic buildings, and small town charm.

Thank you again to Erik and his group of fellow history lovers, we welcome you back any time!

The museum is still currently closed for the season while we work to hire a curator. In the interim, please reach out to a board member should you want to visit the museum.

We have an opening for our MUSEUM CURATOR. The job is open until filled. First review of applicants will be May 3rd, 2026. Visit our website, contact a board member, or send an email to [email protected] for more information regarding the position. Seasonal work during May-October, Wed-Sun, with potential for some off season hours. Pay is dependent upon experience, starting wage of $20/hour.

Feeling incredibly grateful as we move into 2026!

In 2025, we had a documented 224 visitors that chose to stop by our museum - 49 of them local to Gilliam County. We also welcomed guests from all over Oregon, and additionally California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Washington, and as far away as France and Germany!

THANK YOU to everyone who visited, supported, and is a part of our museum community. If you visited us in 2025, we'd love to see you again, and if you haven't yet, we hope you'll stop by during our 2026 season; we'll be back open in May!

St. Catherine Church - Mayville

In 1900 a portion of land was donated by Charles Quinn to build the Mayville Catholic Church. Its doors were open as a church until 1931, when it was then converted to farm storage for the following 78 years. In 2009 it was donated to the museum by the Quinn estate and after extensive repairs and renovations, it was returned to its former glory and opened for the public to view in 2012.

In the early morning hours of May 28th, 1918, Olin V Reser married Mary Catherine Greiner in the church. Fast forward to September 20th, 2025, Olin and Mary Catherine's great-grandson, Joseph Campbell, wed Deidre Schreiber at the St. John Catholic Church in Condon. They took the time to visit St. Catherine's Church at the museum to celebrate their holy matrimony. Deidre and Joseph were gracious enough to give us a peek into this special moment, sharing these photos with us. What an honor to have this building on our grounds that holds so much sentimental value to our community and its members.

Wow! What a turnout for our Annual Meeting and Dinner last Saturday. Thank you for the continued support of our volunteer-led non-profit! We would not be successful without the support of our fellow history loving community members.

We celebrated our accomplishments from the season, honored past and present board members, shared a delicious meal, and listened to the Weimar Family history.

In addition to the 63 membership renewals we had, folks generously donated upwards of $2,100 to support our initiatives. If you're looking for a way to support our organization, reach out to a board member to see how you can get involved!
