R.E. Hunt Museum & Cultural Center A historical treasure located in Columbus, Mississippi The prized archives of African American History and culture of Columbus and Lowndes County, Mississippi.

Housed in the renown R.E. Hunt High School Annex, the museum offers many exhibits year-round including, "The Educators", elected and appointed officials, trailblazer and a collection of artifacts and memorabilia of days long past.

As part of this year's Juneteenth festivities in Columbus, the R.E. Hunt Museum and Cultural Center held its grand reopening Friday evening with more than 200 items on display. The museum closed in Feb. 2019 after suffering severe damage from an EF-3 tornado. THANK YOU!

What an incredible day of celebration, reflection, and homecoming as we officially reopened the R. E. Hunt Museum & Cultural Center and celebrated Juneteenth with our community.

To every alumnus, volunteer, teacher, school board member, elected official, community partner, tourist, family member, friend and supporter who stopped by—thank you for helping make this reopening so special. Your presence reminds us that the Hunt legacy is alive, thriving, and worth preserving for future generations.

As we begin this new chapter, we invite you to bring your friends and family back to visit. We welcome church groups, family reunions, class reunions, homecomings, civic organizations, student groups, and anyone interested in learning more about the rich history of R.E. Hunt High School and the African American experience in Columbus and Lowndes County.

🏛️ We are open today from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
