Dublin (Ohio) Historical Society The Fletcher Coffman Homestead in Dublin, typifies American farm life of the 1800s.

Formed in 1974, the Dublin Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization committed to preserving, archiving, and displaying materials connected to Dublin’s past to encourage the study of and appreciation of its history. The Civil War era brick house and adjoining farm buildings are a testimonial to the hard working people who constituted the second generation of Ohio pioneer families. Built between the years 1862 and 1867, this simple two-story house has been restored to interpret the lifestyle and tastes of a middle class farm family of that era. It is furnished with original Coffman family furniture and pieces which belonged to other Dublin families from that time. The 19th century barn contains agricultural tools and equipment of the period. The Dublin Garden Club helped to renovate the grounds with plantings authentic to the period. Additionally, visitors can see an heirloom vegetable garden on the Homestead currently tended by volunteers from City of Dublin's staff and members of the Dublin Historical Society. Along the gate to this garden also stand 2 apple trees that were sprigs cut from the last remaining apple tree in Ohio that was planted by Johnny Appleseed. Visitors will not only enjoy the refurbished Coffman House, but visitors to the one-room school exhibit inside the former "corn crib" can sit on benches and write on slate with chalk, view textbooks and toys of the 1800s and early 1900s, see a map where locations of one-room schools once stood (and still stand) in Washington Township, and meet a local schoolmarm dressed in period costume! The Homestead is part of Dublin's Coffman Park complex and is located next to the Dublin Municipal Building (City Hall), 5300 Emerald Parkway. Parking is available in the City Hall parking lot or adjacent spaces for Coffman Park.

The Dublin Historical Society cordially invites you to explore our latest exhibition. Opening date is Friday , October 16th at 12:00 noon.

The display will showcase Dublin's athletic legacy and the distinguished individuals who have risen to professional prominence. This comprehensive display delves into the rich history of local sports, featuring esteemed athletes and historic artifacts, including equipment, game-worn jerseys, and coveted championship trophies.

Notable sports figures represented include:
Jeg Coughlin Jr., Brady Quinn, Jay Richardson, Vince Workman Jr., Connor Murphy, Konrad Warzycha, Sade Olatoye, Abby Steiner, Sean Kuraly, Kent Mercker, Chris Quinn, Mike Adams, Chinedum Ndukwe, and Jacy Sheldon.

The Wright Brothers built this Dublin home – but maybe not the ones you’re thinking of 🎡

Daniel and Charles Wright were part of the circus.

They toured all over the Midwest with a show called a “traveling menagerie” in the early 1800s. Interestingly, the brothers came from the same town as Hachaliah Bailey, whose own show would later become part of the Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Daniel Wright took on many roles to help Dublin grow, including Postmaster and Justice of the Peace. When the town needed a new schoolhouse, he built it with help from John Sells – yet another Dublin circus professional whose show would become one of the most famous in the country.

In 1876, this home was purchased by George M. Karrer. The Karrer family went on to develop deep roots in Dublin. Family members ran local businesses, served as doctors, and became involved in the local historical society. George also built a large bank barn in the 1870s, which still stands at High Street and Waterford Drive.

Nearly 150 years later, the home remains in the Karrer family: George’s great-grandson still lives there.

Two Dublin schools bear the family names: Karrer Middle School and Daniel Wright Elementary.
