W.T. Rickly’s office on the corner of Olive and Eleventh streets was entered Tuesday night. A suit of clothes belonging to Frank Taylor was taken and some valuable papers of Mr. Rickly’s.

A farmer was heard to say yesterday, “What’s the matter with Columbus that she cannot keep her streets filled up near the sidewalk where people have to hitch their teams. It is always a mud hole.” His remarks do not need analysis. Something should be done to either drain or fill up those places.

The funeral of Mrs. Albert Stenger who died Tuesday night of typhoid fever, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at her home east of the city.

Patrons of the Columbus post office showed an unusual desire to purchase the Sesquicentennial envelopes which were recently received. A shipment of 15,000 of the envelopes—5,000 each of three sizes, was received here a few days ago and only a few of them are left.

City Engineer C.E. Devlia, is having the bases of the electrolier posts in the city painted yellow. This color is more easily seen than the white used formerly.

An outstanding success was the Charity ball held in Hasselbalch hall Wednesday evening, the first of s series to be held Oct. 12 of each year under auspices of the Catholic Daughters of America. Estimates place the attendance at fully 600.

Humphrey—As an aftermath of the attack upon Marshal R.J. Louden by unknown assailants Saturday morning and the futile search made with the aid of bloodhounds imported from Beatrice, the village of Humphrey is offering a reward of $500 for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who perpetrated the assault.

Hereafter autoists are requested to refrain from parking their cars in alleys in the business section of Columbus after dark. In cases where cars are found so parked they will be hauled in to garages and owners will be asked to explain their reasons for parking in the alleys.

Damage estimated at between $1,000 and $1,500 resulted from seepage water in basements of four business houses adjoining the alley between Twelfth and Thirteenth street and between Twenty-fourth and Twenty-sixth avenues Thursday night. The four business houses were the Columbus Maytag company, Trotter store, Baer Shoe store and Columbus theatre.
