There were 1,978 automobiles using the Lincoln and Meridian highways at the Loup bridge yesterday, 699 cars more than the average daily number of cars during the week.

Columbus public school opened today. The total enrollment record this forenoon was 1,057. Of these, 305 are in the high school and 752 in the grades.

With an appropriate program enjoyed by nearly 200 persons and featured by informal talks by the county superintendent and Congressman Edgar Howard, District 59’s new, modern rural school house, three miles southeast of St. Edward, was dedicated Thursday evening.

Our summer weekend hours ended yesterday. We will not be open on Saturdays and Sundays again until next summer. We are still open M-F from 8:30- 1:30 with a few possible exceptions.

Separate sale of the eight lots in the old court house block by Colonel Vivian Brian at the public sale held by order of the county board yesterday insures the fact that within the next year or two the block will be built up solidly with new residences. Receipts from the sale totaled $11,255.60

Justice E.W. Mann, chairman of the Oconee township board, and Ernest VanAllen, road overseer, were in the city this forenoon to consult the county dads about the condition of the south approach to the Loup river bridge near Monroe.

Call for a grand jury to convene in Columbus September 18, the first day of the fall term of court, has been issued by District Judge A.M. Post. It will be the first grand jury to function in Platte county in 30 years or more.

Fully 70 persons attended the annual picnic held by the Spanish war veterans, the ladies’ auxiliary of the local camp and their families at August Wagner’s summer home near Monroe Sunday. They fished and swam and boated and ate- principally ate- and had a delightful pleasing outing.

Columbus may have a third theatre if a deal now said to be pending is put through either today of tomorrow. The location of the new house involves the site now occupied by the Eagle café, 1255 Twenty-sixth avenue, of which Mrs. Victoria Scott is proprietor.
