Here are some of the sights from the opening reception for the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026 display at the South Carolina State Museum!

We were honored to welcome all 10 inductees to the Museum in May as we celebrated their incredible achievements and the opening of this special display, made possible through our growing partnership with the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

The display showcases memorabilia from each member of the Class of 2026, including Steve Spurrier’s iconic visor, Amber Campbell-Moore’s Team USA track and field jersey, Dwayne Harper’s Seattle Seahawks helmet and many other objects that tell the stories of South Carolina’s athletic legends.

Be sure to see the display on your next visit to the Museum. It will be up until July 19!

ICYMI, we recently shared the exciting news that the flag of the 2nd South Carolina Regiment has returned to the SCSM. The flag was gifted to the regiment after the Battle of Sullivan's Island in 1776.

This significant piece of South Carolina history features several elements that have since become popular symbols of our state. Let's take a closer look at one of them! 👀

Featured in the center of the flag is a silk-embroidered drum that includes the shape of a crescent. This represents a very early use of the crescent symbol, which has since become an iconic part of the South Carolina State flag. 🪘🌙

Discover the story of the 2nd South Carolina Regiment, learn about the creation of the flag, and explore its meaning in our upcoming exhibition, "American Battleground: South Carolina's Revolution," opening Saturday, June 27!

Congratulations to Amy Bartow-Melia for successfully completing the Riley Fellows DLI Program of The Riley Institute at Furman. Amy is a member of the Midlands class and is joining the ranks of more than 3,000 statewide. 👏

As part of the program, Amy worked on a team capstone project, Planting South Carolina Roots, that will work with the South Carolina Wildlife Federation to create and upkeep a Carolina Fence Garden with native plant species that supports essential habitats. This garden has been planted and can be found out front of the Museum! 🌱
