Where nature, art, and metal meet! 🌿

We’re excited to feature the work of Rachel Suzanne Smith in our upcoming Metals Exhibition at 701 Center for Contemporary Art!

An artist, metalsmith, and educator, Rachel creates incredible wearable sculptures inspired by nature and our connection to the outdoors. Through innovative digital fabrication techniques, she transforms botanical forms into intricate works of art that explore identity, self-expression, and the beauty of the natural world.

And we’d love for you to see her work in person!

Meet Addison de Lisle, one of the metalsmiths in “a survey of contemporary metal” at 701 CCA. 🔥

From his studio in midcoast Maine, Addison looks to the coast to explore where crafted objects begin and what role craft plays today.

He holds an MFA in Blacksmithing and Metalsmithing and received the 2024 Belvedere Handcraft Fellowship. See his “Impact Brooch” in person this fall.

What happens when raw metal meets extraordinary imagination?

This fall, 701 Center for Contemporary Art invites you to discover the remarkable artistry, innovation, and craftsmanship of contemporary metalsmithing.

Opening October 22, A Survey of Contemporary Metal brings together 19 emerging and established artists from across the United States, exploring the limitless possibilities of metal through sculpture, jewelry, functional objects, and experimental techniques.

Curated by 701 CCA Executive Director Tabitha Ott, the exhibition celebrates artists who challenge traditional boundaries, breathe new life into discarded materials, and transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Part of the nationwide Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026 initiative, this exhibition offers a fascinating look at the evolving world of American craft.

Join us at 701 CCA on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 PM as Linda Williams McCune shares more about her artistic journey, the different series featured throughout the exhibition, and the inspiration and ideas that have shaped her practice.
