Wearing 169-year-old history at the World’s Fair of Money! ⚓✨

Our Community Manager, Liv Testa, had the once-in-a-lifetime honor of becoming the very first person to wear Adeline Easton’s coat since the S.S. Central America sank in 1857.

Adeline was one of just 153 survivors of the famous "Ship of Gold." Her trunk was recovered in 1990, and thanks to the help of enthusiasts Bob Evans and Greg Darnstaedt, her coat was remarkably preserved. Liv is also holding Adeline's intricately carved hairbrush—another stunning artifact from the deep.

Looking at the incredible condition of this piece, it’s hard to believe it spent over 130 years at the bottom of the Atlantic. A massive thank you to Bob Evans and Greg Darnstaedt for sharing their exhibit display with us in Pittsburgh!

In Part 2 of our multi-part series from the World’s Fair of Money in Pittsburgh, chief scientist and historian Bob Evans and enthusiast Greg Darnstaedt share more curiosities from their shipwreck exhibit.

Bob shows off their 3D viewer showing initial underwater images of the treasure, details how the team injected silicone rubber to lift full casts of over 2,400 gold double eagles, and shows off “mineral rust” fossil impressions on gold.
