The Bank of Mexico released a report revealing that nearly 13 million people are hoarding millions of dollars’ worth of the nation’s stylish 50-peso note, featuring Mexico’s cutest critter—the axolotl. The front of the note bears an adorable depiction of Gorda, an axolotl from a museum in the country’s capital. The note entered circulation in 2021, dazzling the judges of the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), who awarded it the Note of the Year.

Visitors to the Higgins Museum of National Bank Notes during the summer months can see 31 Revolutionary War-era paper currency issues. This exhibition is on loan from the collection of a museum board member. It includes colonial pieces, early statehood examples, and notes authorized by the Continental Congress. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.

Alaska has enacted legislation recognizing gold and silver specie as legal tender while eliminating local sales and use taxes on precious-metals transactions statewide. 👏

According to its supporters, this move will benefit collectors, investors, and dealers. House Bill 1 became law on May 29, and the measure will take effect August 28.
