In the world that often rushes by too fast, there’s the boys, favourite tool, chest, a portal today’s gone by. This magical chest holds the essence of yesterday year, a time when life was simpler, enjoy was found in the little things. Just look inside and you’re instantly transported to a world where imaginations run, wild, and the biggest adventure was just around the corner. The old-fashioned toys inside, bring to life the warmth of a bike gone era, a time when kids played in the streets until the sun went down, and the world felt safe and full of possibilities.

Ingredients
Antique wood tool chest, painted and altered. Antique porcelain boy, figurines and dog, vintage tape measure, level, drillbit storage, erector set wheels and 1890s wood clock gear and bits of this and that.

Michelle Braswell is a narrative mixed media artist based in Colorado Springs Colorado. She creates freestanding sculpture and dimensional wall works. Her sculptures transform found objects through clay and paint.

Al B Johnson is an artist and a teacher of abstract expressionism based here in Colorado Springs. He believes it’s essential to constantly expand one’s abilities and master new techniques. He has spent years studying the works of abstract expressionism and he’s influenced by many styles and approaches. He’s also influenced by experiences and obstacles in his own life. Out of that mashup comes a style of work that he calls “techno tribal expressionism”.

Join us NEXT SATURDAY for an Artist Talk with the incredible Marre Moores. She will be delving into existential ideas around thought, identity, and creativity in the age of AI with her debut show, Humans Being.

Marre’s work is all oil on board and she does not use AI at any stage of her process. Come and take a peak behind the scenes and learn about how she brings these ideas to life.

Beer and wine will be served beginning at 4pm downstairs at Platte Collections.
