We cannot stress how much we love our community! Unfortunately Gabba's tacos had a flat tire and can't make it to our food truck event tonight, but the Colfax Pizza King stepped up! From 5:00 to 7:30, Sarah will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Colfax Historical Society. And we still have Traveling Tom's and the bake sale in the Historical Society parking lot. Swing on by to grab yourself a sweet treat before enjoying a delicious pizza from Pizza King.

We love when community members help us share information about our local history! The following was written by Steven Spencer about the Communion Set we have in the museum. Have some local history you would like to share? Don't hesitat to reach out!

One Cup (shared cup) Communion Ware

Colfax Christian Church donated to the Colfax Museum their old communion set. It was displayed in a sealed case mounted on one of the sanctuary walls until the building was torn down in 2009.

Until around 1890 most protestant churches observed communion (The Lord’s Supper) with a communal cup(s). With the onset of diseases such as TB and others common in those days, a more germ-free method was devised. Intinction is the practice of dipping the bread into the cup of juice (or w**e). This method is still practiced in some churches today.

Taking sanitation one step further was the tray of individual cups that was passed or shared among congregants. Originally the cups were made of glass and a tray full of filled cups was surprisingly heavy. It was always a pleasure for me and my sister to “help” dad clean the communion ware each Sunday afternoon when it was his turn to prepare and clean-up. We got to drink the unused cups!
