Old Trail Town

Old Trail Town See the West as it really was! On this site in 1895, Western scout and showman William F.
(270)

("Buffalo Bill") Cody laid out the original townsite of Cody, Wyoming, which was named in his honor. Today Old Trail Town preserves the lifestyle and history of the Frontier West through a rare collection of authentic structures and furnishings. From remote locations in Wyoming and Montana these historic buildings were carefully disassembled, moved and reassembled here at Old Trail Town by Western

historian Bob Edgar and friends. Located here also are thousands of historic artifacts from the Old West and grave sites of several notable Western figures. Among the is the grave of mountain man John Johnson, who was portrayed by the actor Robert Redford in the 1972 motion picture "Jeremiah Johnson".

The Roof before and after. The new double doors will be "aged" and the window on the right is where the Marshal's office is. That will have bars on it.

This past fall Old Trail Town was very fortunate to acquire an 1880s iron jail cell. We have been cleaning out and cleaning up a building that has been used for storage and never been open to the public. The front third of the Rice Ranch Commissary will house Old Trail Town's Marshal's Office in 2026. The back will remain storage.
The roof has been repaired and shingled by Dan Snow's High Country Roofing. The front third of the interior has just been cleaned and re-chinked by Justin Peters, owner of Peters Restorationtion.
Our own Old Trail Town crew built the partition and the side double doors leading into the storage area. Our crew is invaluable.
We want to thank both Dan and Justin companies for their expertise, professionalism, and being just plain good people.
I'll add a few before and after photos of both the roof and the interior. The transformation is truly amazing.
We are all excited to have show our visitors the new building and display.
I'll keep you posted.

Old Trail Town has had gates installed at the upper public and lower employee entrances. They look wonderful. Chase Farrar, Farrar Welding & Fabrication, Cody, followed our mockup and created exactly what we wanted.
We took a photograph of one of Bob Edgar's buffalo skulls and turned it into a graphic. Chase took it from there, worked his magic on the computer, and laser cut the skulls. They are a perfect replica of the real thing including the bullet hole!
Rusty Ballard, Ballard Painting, Cody, and his crew sanded and painted the uprights and cross bar.
It was great to work with them all.
We couldn't be happier with the professionalism of these people and the quality of the product.
Thank you

Well, Cody has finally gotten the moisture we so very much needed. It just all came at once. We've got 14" on the level here and with no wind it is beautiful. And, it's 8 above and sunny. A very pretty day.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Old Trail Town for their generous donation to the Cody Police Department Fallen Officer Fund. Your support means so much in helping us assist the immediate families of Cody Police Officers who are injured in the line of duty, killed in the line of duty, diagnosed with catastrophic illnesses, or experience other unfortunate events.

Old Trail Town is truly an iconic part of Cody, celebrating the rich history of the Old West. If you haven’t visited yet, it’s a must-see destination that captures the spirit and heritage of Wyoming. Thank you for your generosity and for being such a valued part of our town.

We've been busy here at Old Trail Town since closing for season on September 30. Maintenance and repairs, new display ideas, new and ongoing projects.
Our latest is the installation of two new iron gates at our upper (public) and lower (employee) entrances. They are going to be gorgeous. Chase Farrar, Farrar Welding and Fabrication, has designed the gates. He and his crew started the installation process today. When the gates are installed I'll post more photos.
This is just another step in making Old Trail Town more secure, which helps us to ensure we'll be able to offer you a quality museum experience.

Thanks to all of you who visited Old Trail Town this summer. We received many wonderful comments about our town and displays.

Now, having closed for the season on September 30, we are busy with major repair projects that cannot be completed during the summer.

We also winterize the cabins inside and out; collections are wrapped and packed against the elements, all buildings are oiled, and projects completed before the snow flies.

From the time we close for the season we are preparing in all ways for our next summer season.

Thanks, again for your support

Thank you for your wonderful words about Old Trail Town. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit with us.

The Blue Knights® International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club was established in 1974 and now has 600 Chapters in 34 countries and territories. They scheduled their 50th Anniversary in Cody, hosted by the Cheyenne, Wyoming Chapter.
We are happy that they chose to visit Old Trail Town. I don't know how many total are registered, but we are happy to be able to host over 200 here at Old Trail Town.
I was able to visit with a few as they toured the town today and shared a bit more cabin history with them. They are a great fun group of people. Welcome to Cody and Old Trail Town.
Thank you Billy Swearingin (Cheyenne Chapter) for all your efforts in booking the conference in Cody.

It's the Fourth of July and it's a beautiful day.
I talked with a young couple from Italy, Sara and Enrico. I told them they were the most colorful characters in Old Trail Town. See if you agree.
Thank you for visiting Old Trail Town, Sara and Enrico.

We've just received this. It's always great to be recognized. We definitely appreciate our visitors.
