May 8th…today Britian celebrates Remembrance Day. 80 years since the day Germany signed an unconditional surrender. Victory in Europe, now also known as VE Day. We here in Clewiston should also mark the day as one of remembrance, for it was also the beginning of the end of our American involvement in WWII. It would also soon be the end of our close ties with the British RAF cadets who trained here at Riddle Field. 1,325 young Brits learned to become pilots here in our Florida blue skies….23 of them did not live to return home. In addition, an unknown number who trained here perished in air battles over England, France, Germany and other war torn places. The Clewiston Museum has a large collection of Riddle Field artifacts that were donated by the cadets and their families. Many of them are on exhibit for the public to enjoy. The museum is open M-F from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and on Saturdays by appointment (based on availability). Mention this post to receive a discounted admission rate of $5 for adults and $3 for students, seniors, and children over 3.

A Celebration of the Artist of the Everglades, Ann Tyler

Even though Ann had been ill for several years, she welcomed the visits of her students. They were never her former students because even a visit with her could be a learning conversation about art.

Ann passed away on February, 27, 2025.
There will be a showing of her art work Saturday, May 10, at the Lawerence E. Will Museum, 530 S. Main Street, Belle Glade, Florida, from 2 to 4 pm.

Come visit with her family, friends and art students. Many of her art pieces will be on display as well as the works of her students.

Celebrate our Artist of the Glades, Ann Tyler.
