Dear Artists and Friends,

After an incredible 6-year journey, we’ve decided it’s time for a new chapter in KINK Contemporary’s story.
On November 30th, 2024, we’ll be closing our physical storefront to take some time to reevaluate and explore innovative ways to support artists like you in this ever-changing art world.

But don’t worry - this isn’t a goodbye, it’s more of a “see you soon.” While we may not be presenting exhibitions for a time, we look forward to supporting this amazing community in other ways, including supporting other local artist-run spaces. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. Your talent, passion, and trust in KINK Contemporary have been the driving force behind our success. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with such amazing artists and to have built lasting friendships along the way. To the incredible community that has supported us through thick and thin - thank you! Your enthusiasm and love for art have made every exhibition, every opening night, and every conversation a joy.

While our physical space may be closing, our commitment to supporting artists and promoting exceptional art remains stronger than ever. We’re thrilled about the possibilities that lie ahead and can’t wait to share our future plans with you. Please stay tuned for updates on our new direction and initiatives through Instagram, Facebook, and our newsletter.
We’re looking forward to continuing our journey together and are excited for what the future holds.

This Saturday, November 16th, we’re hosting one last community event at KINK Contemporary before we close up shop.

Come by and say hi from 6-9 pm - during the event, we will have our remaining artworks in the back gallery on view and for sale. To further support the artists involved, we will be lowering our commission rate to 20%. We also encourage everyone to stop by and support our neighbors for food and drinks during the event. Plus, we’re clearing out some office stuff and other artist materials, so you might be able to score some free or cheap goodies while you’re there.

With Love & Gratitude,

Anna & McKenzie 💕

This Saturday! Join us on July 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. for the opening reception of Jason Milburn's solo exhibition "Dual Civilizations."

"Dual Civilizations," explores how people create religion, myths, and self-help techniques to navigate confusion and hardship. Through references to Bible storybooks and comic books, both seminal literature in Milburn's youth, religious and secular societies collide, sharing space and daily activities and routines. These interactions seem to result in friendly cooperation just as easily as frustrated disagreements as the two groups' ways of thinking and living begin to intertwine and differences and similarities begin to manifest.

"I started using references that are familiar from my childhood because I wasn't feeling a connection to the figures in magazines and catalogs I had been using. The separation of the rendered figure from the more ethereal background is important because it feels like the figure is moving through, not just around, something."–Milburn

"I sketch almost every day as a designer at an architecture firm. It's the perfect medium for quick ideation on my own or with others. I think there's some serious value in acknowledging design artifacts as art objects. To me, it just makes sense to bring these quick drawings and ideas back to my studio so they can contribute to a larger conversation in the arts other than just being a utility in a particular architectural project; especially when so many of these quick ideas need to be scrapped because they're not appropriate or pragmatic." -Rundle

Dylan Rundle is an architectural designer and interdisciplinary artist based in Cleveland, Ohio. Alongside his artist practice, he currently works as a designer with a speciality in architectural graphics and parametric systems. Dylan earned his bachelor of architecture and a minor in studio art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Join us this Friday 5-9pm for the opening of "Interspection"!

“My work aims to liberate architectural representation and expand its instrumentality. Drawing is the principal medium of architecture; its primary function is to communicate a space. I wish to undomesticate the architectural drawing, and return it to a feral, imaginative state. Faster than ever, our built environment is becoming a value engineered, craft deficit, product of private interests; designed at the mercy of software that encourages creative conformity. Through a combination of drafting, 3D modeling, post digital print media, collage, and coding, My work attempts to retain a sense of formal and conceptual playfulness that is too often absent in postmodern architectural thinking and making.” -Dylan Rundle

Interspection - to examine a state of betweenness. This exhibition is a selection of work that considers the agency of the physical drawing in the context of contemporary architectural practice. These drawings invite viewers to consider drawing as a vehicle for communication to others as well as communication with the self. The work looks towards speculating the interrelationships of art and architecture while setting free architectural representation from the real world constraints it is so often plagued by.
