Clermont Historical Society

Clermont Historical Society Preserving Clermont’s past to inspire its future. Today, our town is home to just over 1,100 lucky residents who consider our community family.

We’re a nonprofit dedicated to keeping our small town’s history alive through stories, artifacts, and community events. Formerly known as Dip, Georgia, the name of our idyllic all-American small town was changed to Clermont in 1905, reflecting the "clear mountain" view of Wauka Mountain. In 1913, the Georgia General Assembly formally incorporated the Town of Clermont, which was home to important l

andmarks such as the Griffin Brothers General Store and Cotton House, as well as a boarding school--quite a rich feature for the time. Spanning a 3 mile swath of rural land in north Hall County, Clermont was at one point a bustling hub of activity as a stop along the agricultural railway. We take great pride in our historic buildings, events organized by the Town, Clermont Historical Society, and dedicated local volunteers, and--in the heart of our town--our residential historic district. With over a century of history to explore and preserve, we are dedicated to the cause in hopes that future generations will better understand where we came from, what makes us who we are, and the incomparable value of life in a classic small town. Visit our town's website to stay in the know about what's happening in our small corner of heaven!

As we begin planning next year’s Clermont Historical Society calendar and continue growing our digital library, we would love your help preserving the stories that make our community special.

Whether it’s a story about a longtime business, school days, community events, farming, churches, veterans, or everyday life in our town - we want to hear from you!

These stories help preserve Clermont’s history for future generations and may even be featured in our upcoming calendar or digital archives.

What a wonderful evening for The Clermont Historical Society!❤️🌻

There’s something special about neighbors gathering around the table to share great food, laughter, music, and fellowship. Tonight’s Farm to Table Dinner was filled with smiling faces, friendly conversations, a little bingo fun, and memories that remind us why we love this community so much.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the evening so special. Events like these bring us together and make our hometown an even better place to call home.

Until next time… here’s a look at all the fun we had! 🎉🍽️🌽
