Ucross Foundation

Ucross Foundation Ucross is a world-class artist residency program on a historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming. Our participants come from all over the world.

Ucross Foundation, a 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization, has been welcoming artists since 1983. For 40 years, Ucross has been giving space and time to artists across disciplines, including visual and interdisciplinary artists, writers, composers, and performing artists. In our complex of private studios and shared residences, visiting artists build a small, intense community hard at work in the midst of 20,000 acres of Wyoming ranchland. Ucross's home is a working ranch set at the confluence of three creeks, and our purpose is to bring deeply committed artists into the heart of this unparalleled landscape. We believe that being a good steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa. Both require dedication, imagination, and the best possible use of the resources at hand. In addition to fostering the work of individual artists, Ucross is a meeting and working place for groups, a multi-disciplinary laboratory for creative thinking. The Ucross Art Gallery, a cultural landmark of northern Wyoming, features artwork by acclaimed former artists-in-residence. We invite the public to visit, free of charge, and then enjoy espresso and freshly baked pastries at the onsite Ucross Café. We also help sponsor and host educational programs, conferences, and special events. Our reach is as close as our nearest neighbors and as distant as almost any spot on earth. Ucross is home to the creative spirit.

Join Ucross alumna Caroline Davis for her performance on Friday, October 23, at 7 p.m., at Kinnison Hall in Sheridan College as part of her Fallows Solo Tour.

Caroline is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, and activist, whose work is driven by a desire for connection and a belief in music’s capacity to expand listeners’ ears, minds, and hearts. “Fallows,” composed while Caroline was in residency at Ucross, blends alto saxophone, electronics, and field recordings captured onsite.

On September 24, we shared the creative spirit at the Ucross Gala. Friends, new and old, joined us to celebrate our artist residency program and the impact the gift of time and space can make for artists, culminating in an awards ceremony honoring Outstanding Patron of the Arts Naoma Tate.

With your generosity, we were able to raise more than $400,000 to continue upholding our mission.

We always love to see how Ucross captures our artists-in-residence and how they capture Ucross in return.

From a double rainbow to a sky full of stars, Ucross Fellow Cadence Giersbach recently shared these snapshots of her residency in the majestic High Plains of Wyoming.

Join us in cheering three-time Ucross Fellow Marsha Goldberg on her recent group exhibition “Interplay and Echoes.” Featuring works from Marsha, along with two other artists, Julia Shepley and Marilu Swett, this exhibition will be on view through October 18 at the Brickbottom Artists Association & Gallery in Somerville, Massachusetts.

These three artists use layers of translucency and structure to make works that imply another spatial dimension. The resulting works have in common an interplay between foreground and background, resulting in echoes and conversations between what is sharply defined and what is barely seen or slightly obscured.
