Earlier this year, Clayton Historic Preservation sponsored an Essay Contest on “What is your Best Memory of Clayton” in 200 words or less. After reviewing the many fabulous entries, the winners were chosen. First prize of $150.00 was awarded to Shirl Kasper, CHS alum, on her essay titled “Seven Cents” about the Miller’s Grocery Store on East Clayton Avenue and Vine Street. Pictured below (L to R) are CHP members Jeanne Schoellkopf and Barbara Silver Hutcheon, Clayton resident Sean Newlin, Councilman Frank Rollo, and CHP member Deborah Fisler Mongiardo. Sean Newlin, CHS Class of 1992, was given his second prize winnings of $100.00 last night at the Borough’s Council meeting. Sean’s essay recalls his memories of the “Boys of Fall, Thanksgiving Day Game, 1990.” CHP’s final third prize of $50.00 went to Clayton resident, Jan Anderson, for her essay titled "Autumn in Clayton."
