The Alf Museum was so excited to welcome Angela and Eli from the Smosh crew to learn about dinosaurs and tour the museum with our staff, Gabriel and Bailey, for Smosh's Dino Week! We had so much fun and it was great getting the opportunity to share our museum with the Smosh crew!

Fields trip! Yesterday, The Webb Schools 12th graders, Cynthia and Marina, accompanied curator, Dr. Mairin Balisi, on a trip the Western Science Center! There they met with lab manager, Leya Collins, to learn how WSC processes modern specimens for their comparative anatomy collection. They got to see their dermestid beetle colony, the WSC lab, and the collections room. Both Cynthia and Marina are very interested in natural history and anatomy and want to create their own comparative collection one day!

Thanks so much to our friends at WSC for hosting us and teaching our students!

Greetings from Barstow! This past weekend was the first of the year! As part of their biology class, all 9th graders of The Webb Schools take their first Peccary Trip to Barstow in the Mojave Desert to learn about paleontology and look for fossils! Led by Alf Museum paleontologists like Dr. Andy and Dr. Mairin Balisi, students get to experience science firsthand.

Peccary Trips are an honored tradition at The Webb Schools and Alf Museum that stretches back 90 years to when Ray Alf discovered his very first fossil, a peccary skull, in Barstow. Students even get cook using the same pans that Ray and his students used, our so-called peccary pans, on their Peccary Trips!

Congrats to everyone on completing their first Peccary Trip and on making some really great finds like a fossil horse toe bone! We hope this leads to many discoveries and memories during your time at Webb and the Alf Museum!

All specimens were collected under permit from the US Bureau of Land Management and are housed at the Alf Museum of Paleontology collection.

Alf Museum x NHMLA = awesome! Its been a fun couple of weeks for the Alf Museum crew as we participated in two really great events at NHMLA!

Last week, Alf Museum curator, Dr. Mairin Balisi, joined other experts to weigh in and discuss which prehistoric creature would come out on top at Prehistoric Fight Night!

And yesterday, our high school paleontologists from The Webb Schools and museum staff got to share the Alf Museum's important dinosaur finds at NHMLA's annual Dino Fest!
