2025 has been a momentous year for CINC - we finished moving into our beautiful, newly renovated home! Although we never fully closed, parts of the collection were inaccessible, but we’re back in business now thanks to the tireless efforts of collections manager, Olivia Leek, and our super team of undergraduate student workers and volunteers. A huge thanks to all of you who have helped us move forward!

UC's Margaret H. Fulford Herbarium moved from Crosley Tower to Rieveschl Hall with support from the National Science Foundation. UC has Ohio's third-largest collections of plant specimens from around the world.

E. Lucy Braun asked her student, Margaret Fulford to organize a few hundred of her plant collections in 1927, and this was born the Margaret H Fulford herbarium

Before Women's History Month comes to an end, we wanted to spotlight another pioneer in conservation who was a prominent botanist and ecologist as well as an inductee in our Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame - Dr. E. Lucy Braun.

Dr. Braun was an environmentalist before the term was popularized, and a pioneering woman in her field, winning many awards for her work. She received a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Cincinnati before becoming the second woman in the sciences and the third woman ever to receive a Ph.D. Her sister Annette was the first. Dr. Braun earned her Ph.D. in 1914, six years before woman won the right to vote in the U.S.

Dr. Braun was one of the first people to conduct scientific research in the field of plant ecology. Her research culminated in the book Deciduous Forests of Eastern Northern America (1950), a groundbreaking publication that received recognition and praise for its detailed documentation of deciduous trees from New Brunswick to Florida. In all, Dr. Braun published over 180 works, including four books and papers in 20 different journals.
