in 1903, the newspaper reported that "President Theodore Roosevelt's train stopped at Gallup for five minutes about 10:30pm. During that time, he made a short speech. He began: It has been the greatest pleasure for me to travel through this great territory today and meet its citizens. I know you well, for half my regiment came from New Mexico."

Or temporary exhibit, A Collection of Miniatures, is almost complete! Here is another sneak peek at some of the objects included in it.

Improving our ability to care for our collection is our favorite thing to do! And we’re very excited to be able to move items out of this exhibit space so we can rehab it…but moving the 100ish kachinas is an intimidating project.

in 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, the first transcontinental railroad was completed.

This photograph "East and West Shaking Hands at Laying of Last Rail" (more commonly known as "The Champagne Photo") taken by Andrew J. Russell is probably the most famous image of the occasion.

We are happy to announce that we are now open 7 days a week at Red Rock Park!

Being open every day is something we've been working towards for over a year now, and several recent conversations with community members have prompted us to take the leap.

We are excited to be more accessible to our community, and we have some fun programs in the works. We hope to see you at the museum soon!

in 1892, the newspaper reported that "The amount subscribed so far for the public library reaches over $200. Mr. JC Speirs is a good canvasser for a laudable cause, and the people are liberal when they are asked to contribute to a noble cause that not only benefits them personally but the town in general."

This image shows the library when it was located in the old jail.

Today's object is a pitch glazed, traditional Diné (Navajo) vessel with a single fillet around the rim. It was manufactured as a demonstration of technique by Mabel Big Thumb near Cow Springs, Arizona.

And if you've ever wondered how the majority of our pottery is stored, it is like this. They have a little donut to sit in!
