Join us May 10, 2pm - 4pm at the Chula Vista Public Library to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Month. The curators of the Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit will be on hand to give tours of the exhibit before the presentation of Kapwa Through the Arts. The even is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Two local artists will share the experience of kapwa. Salvador S. Idos, a retire Filipino language teacher will share his poem "Kapwa" found in his book "Sulyap ng Kadakilaan," ??? of greatness.

Bryan Pangilinan was raised in the South Bay and his involvement in community helped form his Filipino identity. He is a singer, dancer, musician and Composer/Executive Producer of "Larry the Musical," the story of Larry Itliong and the Farm Workers union in Delano, California.

Teachers and staff of High Tech High School (Point Loma) were given a tour of the Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit this week by Anamaria Labao Cabato, PASACAT Executive Director and member of FOSBE curation team. Many of the students took notice of the similarities in importance of family, fiestas, faith, pageants, cultural dances and music. The Exhibit is open through December, 2024 during Library hours. Hospice & Pallative Medicine Fellows of Scripps Mercy Hospital took time to learn about the Filipino Community in San Diego. Members of the FOSBE Committee (Sal Flor, Anamaria Labao Cabato, Joe Mazares, Nancy Nieto) gave a tour of the exhibit, provide the history of the project and lived experiences in the Filipino community. On this second anniversary of FOSBE, our website now provides details of the EXHIBIT. Please feel free to scroll through each niche and case and learn about the Filipino American experience, the waves of migration and how the Filipino community was built in the South Bay. You'll learn of organizations that brought Filipinos together and the changemakers who continued to elevate the Filipiono presence in every aspect of life.

The exhibit will be open through December, 2024. You can also take a live walk through the exhibit at the Chula Vista Public Library during library hours. Mabuhay!!!
