The posters that share the beginning and the next seven decades of OIICG, OCW, OCLA and USAO are finishing their display inside the museum. Soon they will be transferred to the Main Gallery where they will be available for viewing at all times by the visitors.

The museum is sharing the 1960's decade this week with you. In 1965, OCW became OCLA and the poster highlights many of the changes both on campus and world-wide.

The first college to be established by the inaugural Oklahoma State Legislature in 1908 was located in Chickasha, OK. It was for young women and the site was donated by J.B. Sparks in honor of his late daughter, Nellie. The school included a high school for young women and was named the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls. The named was changed in 1916 to Oklahoma College for Women because many judges across the state thought the facility was a penal institute. In 1965 the college became coeducational and was named the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, and later evolved into the current outstanding University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

It is a busy time of the summer. School classes will start soon. In this area that includes pre-kindergarten through university. USAO is getting ready to welcome 350 new freshmen students for the fall classes. There are committees working to help provide a smooth entry for this larger group. Recently Colin Monterroso, Kenzi Reynolds, Jocie Shelton, and Chloey Orosco came to the Museum asking for an addition to the information packet that all of the freshmen receive. While they were here, the group learned about the Imperial Mastodon, a rather rare 13 1/2 feet tall prehistoric elephant that once lived in this area. In the photo, each member of the group is holding a piece of the tip end of one of the tusk of that was found on the line between Grady and Stephen Counties years ago. This is the teachable moment that happens when the original one-piece of the end is shattered in transport to the museum.

The Grady County Museum's FUNDRAISER is tomorrow, June 6th from 9am to 4pm, at 413 W. Chickasha Avenue. The funds will be used for critical museum building issues and needs. ---The featured photo is of Air Force Lt. Col. Burrell Gambel standing with a photo of his airplane from the 4128th Strat Wing (SA6) that was donated to the Museum. Later, Lt. Col. Gambel was a member of barbershop quartets in Chickasha following his retirement.

GCHS Fundraiser Saturday, June 6th, 9 am to 4 pm. - Featured is the Chord Blenders quartet with the "The Finest Sound in Barbershop Music". This group is one of two previous groups that entertained prior to the previous one. Today's features again Harly Day, along with Doug Sikes, Jim Saylor, and Blair Nelson.

Saturday, June 6th, 9 am to 4 pm, at 413 W. Chicksha Avenue will be a FUNDRAISER to benefit the Grady County Historical Society Museum. Funding benefits museum roof, 413 floor, and other museum requirements.---The the photo is of a previous very popular Chickasha area quartet. The members were Burel Gambel, Ealmer Klippel, Harly Day, and Max Rowntree.

Reminder: FUNDRAISER, Saturday, June 6th, 9 am to 4 pm at 413 W. Chickasha Ave east of the Museum. Donations are targeted first for a new Museum roof; other funds will be used to replace the center wood floor in 413 so that area may be used for museum storage; and finally there is always a need for museum requirements and services. --- The first school in Chickasha, I.T. was the Subscription School in 1892. In the early 1900's Chickasha hired Dr. Jonas Cook as School Superintendent. Federal rules were changed and a town in a territory could pass bond issues for school buildings. New West Elementary School is shown under construction in 1904.

Don't forget Saturday June 6th from 9:00 - 4:00, the GCHS's Museum will be having a FUNDRAISER. The funds are needed for a new Museum roof, to replace 413's center floor, and to assist with the needs and services for the museum. --- The photo is of a sketch of the late Major T.M. Slee, a museum supporter, who served in the U.S. Air Force. Note the Fightin' Chick on the side of the F-86F SABRE. The photo is #61/1000 by George Dubick in 1984. The original art piece is on display at the Museum.

The Saturday June 6th FUNDRAISER will be held in building 413 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The funds are targeted for a new MUSEUM roof, new center floor for 413, and additional requirements and services for the Museum. --- In honor of Memorial Day, the previous display photo features some of the military memorabilia from the Museum archives.
