Don’t forget to register for tomorrow’s free event honoring the Holodomor: Remembering the Holodomor: Commemorating the Famine-Genocide in Ukraine on November 22, 3:00 pm (CST). Hosted by Illinois Holocaust Museum & Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America.

In 1932-33, millions of Ukrainians starved to death in a man-made famine deliberately engineered by Stalinist regime leaders. Known as the Holodomor, the Ukrainian term for “killing by starvation,” the famine is one of the least known yet most horrendous genocides of the 20th century.

We invite you to join us, in partnership with Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America, for a solemn hour filled with testimony from children of Survivors. The commemoration will feature remarks from Andrea Chalupa, screenwriter for 2019 film Mr. Jones, which chronicles a British investigative journalist as he breaks the news to western media in the early 1930s. Our program will culminate with a call to action to raise awareness about the Holodomor and speak out against those who deny history.

The Chicago Sculpture International Biennial 2020 opens this week! “Moving Forward in a time of Change: Our New Relationship to the World We Live In” is a juried member exhibition addressing newfound issues generated by the pandemic. The absence of human activity has created noticeable improvements from clearer skies, breathable air quality and less noise to increased movement of wildlife into human frequented areas. Works are sought relating to how these shifts have changed our relationship to the world we live in, such as our sense of space – open and contained, the passing of time, and the un- or over-availability of some materials.

Works will be selected by Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art Curator, Adrienne Kochman. A catalogue will be also be published.

Join us for opening weekend Friday, October 30th - Sunday, November 2nd to see sculptural works by Gunjan Kumar and more!

According to Kumar, "The work, Sifr (meaning zero), for the CSI Biennial is an adaptation of work made as a resident at Edward Albee Foundation, Montauk, NY in collaboration with artist Kevin Benham. The work called Luna was an ode to the moon on a full moon night with each cone signifying each of the eight stages of the moon from new to full. Sifr is the first sculptural work made in continuation to 3D works that have been made so far in this series."
