Today we’re taking a look back at works from our 2014 exhibition “Survival, Spirit, Dreams, Nightmares.”

The exhibition featured works by artists addressing themes of culture and ethnicity, survival, and the power of the human spirit in overcoming adversity. Four artists with different life journeys told stories through their paintings, prints and sculptures. This exhibition included Chicago artists René Hugo Arceo, Mark Nelson, Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern and ex-Chicagoan Peter Dallos.

This week, SNCS Summer Camp learned about relief through exploring Ukrainian-Canadian artist Ronald Kostyniuk's works in our Permanent Collection. After discussing and analyzing his works, students were then asked to cut out and fold colored construction paper, then glue it onto cardstock. Students built abstract garages, beaches, and even bouquets of flowers.

Swipe to see the student’s works of art and and the sculptures that inspired them!
