📸 Anna Horvath in her studio, 2024
Anna Horvath was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1954. She immigrated to the US in 1974. She builds light, linear, painted wooden structures that function much like drawings in air and enclose space in a dynamic fashion. Her objects tend to have a dada-Bauhaus, constructivism- inspired minimalist, modular sensibility bordering on geometric abstraction. Zen meditation, agrarian hand tools, two point and isometric perspective, architecture, and furniture are sources. Horvathʼs solo exhibitions include 65GRAND (Chicago, IL) and Produce Model Gallery (Chicago, IL). Select group exhibitions include: NON-STNDRD (Sauget, IL), Bridgeport Art Center (Chicago, IL), Northeastern Illinois University, (Chicago, IL) Oregon College of Arts and Cras (Portland, OR), Gallery 312 (Chicago, IL), Evanston Art Center (Evanston, IL), Johnson County Arts Center (Iowa City, IA), N.A.M.E. Gallery (Chicago, IL), Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago, IL), Randolph Street Gallery (Chicago, IL), and the Contemporary Arts Workshop (Chicago, IL). She was a recipient of the E. L. Ryerson Traveling Fellowship, The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been featured in publications including ARTnews, Neoteric Art and The Brooklyn Rail. Her work was recently acquired by the collection of Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. She received both her MFA and BFA in Painting & Drawing from School of The Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL)
