Today, we remember the great pianist, composer, singer and music publishing entrepreneur Roberta Evelyn Martin, who would have turned 114 today. Born February 12, 1907, she is considered to be one of the Chicago Gospel music pioneers who helped lay the foundation for modern Gospel music with her extensive catalog of songs and recordings. The Roberta Martin Singers gave Gospel its ensemble sound with Roberta's innovative arrangements. One of Gospel music's most influential voices, Roberta Martin's memory lives on in her timeless recordings, like "God Specializes," "Try Jesus, He Satisfies" and "Only A Look," among many, many others.
