Hey! This dude got a new home today! - it's from my book painting series. Plaster, acrylic, and pencil on found book - Every once in awhile it seems like the drawing should be the main deal. But I still call it a painting. This one is based on some statuary that i photographed in Belgium. The Third Angel, 9x6. mixed media. side view in the comments.

Anthony Adcock solo exhibition, Gridlock, is opening Friday March 15th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. the artist will be there the food and wine will be there, the people in conversation will be there, and we hope you'll be there too. All the galleries in River North are opening the same night, that's why we call it the River North gallery walk. This is a detail of a painting that I find completely spellbinding. Not a word I use everyday to describe art. Once you go out into this landscape, it's hard to come back.

Come on out to River North tomorrow, Friday night from 5 to 8 PM. All the galleries are having beautiful opening receptions including Addington Gallery. We are featuring a solo exhibition by contemporary realist Anthony Adcock. That's Friday, March 15, 5-8pm. 704 N Wells st. That afor-mentioned category - contemporary realist - doesn't really do his work justice. There is a wide range of those art historical and contemporary influences, and multiple layered meanings appearing in his work. His fascinating paintings can be at once deeply engaging and thoughtfully entertaining.

Anthony Adcock (b. 1987 Chicago, IL) blends his unique experiences working as a Local #1 Ironworker and as an artist to create works that explore the relationship between labor and value. Using hyper illusionistic trompe l'oeil painting, sculpture, and installation, he distorts the line between reality and perception to question the importance and relevancy of authorship.

Says Anthony about his work: "Much of my work walks the unpopulated intersection of hyperrealist painting and minimal sculpture; it's generally considered "minimal trompe l'oeil" painting by many. My current body of work explores the similarities between the Proto-Renaissance, specifically Giotto, and contemporary construction road signage. Using techniques and materials from the 1300s, I'm rethinking the language of signage and asking questions like 'what would Giotto do?' "

Friday, Jan 19, 5-8pm: Opening reception for Julia Katz's, solo exhibition. "Backyard and Beyond". We hope you can join us for this exhibition, part of the River North Gallery Walk from 5-8pm Friday! Addington Gallery, 704 N Wells St, Chicago www.addingtongallery.com Pictured: Juia Katz, Everpresent, 36x36, oil on panel
There is always an emotionally engaging element to Julia's work that involves the exploration of landscapes that are at once mysterious and familiar. Viewers are invited to accompany the figures, whether human or animal, into abstract, ambiguous, patterned spaces. Charting a course through these environments means engaging with mystery, memory, and the act of discovery.
From the artist statement:
Metaphorically, my backyard is a place of memory and imagination. Beyond my backyard, is the rest of the world. The same sunlight falls in my backyard as it does everywhere else. Nature goes on around us whether we notice it or not.
People, animals, and trees inhabit the ambiguous spaces of these paintings. I combine disparate elements in an effort to spark something that suits me intuitively and has an emotional impact. The imagery comes from my own experience. Patterns are ubiquitous within nature, as are unique organic forms. I bring that awareness to my process of integrating representational figures in abstract surroundings.

UNEARTH
Karen Perl, Emily Rapport & Gwendolyn Zabicki

Cleve Carney Museum of Art

January 20 - March 10, 2024

Reception: January 25, 2024, 5 - 7 pm

The built environment is an aspirational reflection of social self-awareness. Buildings are torn down, built up, and then torn down again. An empty lot holds space like a pause. The push to optimize our bodies, schedules, and relationships underscores the impermanence of all structures to time and calamity. In the tradition of American painters from the early 20th century who described the activities and moments that comprise daily life, the three artists represented in this proposal find beauty and meaning in everyday urban scenes.

United by their choice of materials, painters Perl, Rapport, and Zabicki follow strong individual sensibilities to delve into perceived reality and unearth a moment or interaction that, when painted, reveals an intensely present experience.
