⏰ It's , and today we're featuring a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle.

January 1st of 1971 would be the last time anyone heard or saw a radio or TV advertisement for ci******es.

After World War II, heavy cigarette advertising led the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to require TV stations to air anti-smoking advertisements. πŸ“Ί

In 1970, Congress took things one thing further and passed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act, which banned the advertising of ci******es on television and radio starting on January 2, 1971.

After the television ban, most cigarette advertising took place in magazines, newspapers, and on billboards.

We spent this past weekend having a blast at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our cars and said hello!

We had our famous Bubbletop in the lobby and three more amazing cars spread throughout the convention.

We're so grateful for the people we met this weekend and the memories we were able to create. Until next time!

⏰ Welcome back to another . This week, we're highlighting the 1940 American Bantam Hollywood.

So, what happened in 1940? (A section of) the United States' first long-distance controlled-access highway was opened.

The first section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike was opened in October of 1940.

The (now finished) highway runs for 360 miles (580 km) across the state, connecting the Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Philadelphia areas.

It was designed to improve automobile transportation across the mountains of Pennsylvania. It was one of the earlier long-distance limited-access highways in the United States - serving as a precedent for additional limited-access toll roads and the Interstate Highway System.

🧠 Did you know? In 1736, Benjamin Franklin founded the first volunteer fire company - the Union Fire Company.

But firefighting had been going on long before that. As early as 1654, night fire watches were instituted in the larger cities of America in colonial times.

πŸš’ Original fire engines were large water tanks on horse-drawn wagons, and in 1905, Popular Mechanics proposed using a motorized fire engine - with the first fire truck being manufactured in 1906.

Our museum houses this 1919 Ford TT Fire Engine/Pumper, originally built for the Celoron Fire Department in New York. Based on the Model T, the Ford TT (Ton Trucks) had a heavier frame and rear axle, giving it a one-ton rating.

Check out this truck and many other unique automobiles by visiting our museum! We’re open to visitors Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 am to 3 pm. Buy tickets at the door or at the link in our bio 🎟️

⏰ It's AND πŸŽƒ, so we've got a fun one for you today! Say hello to the 1931 Ford Model A Roadster.

So, what happened in 1931? The movie Frankenstein was released 🎬 Though the movie was hastily filmed ( production began on 24 August 1931, and the movie opened on 4 November of that year), the movie was an immediate hit.

Frankenstein drew in over one million dollars in its first run -- more than twice the take of Dracula (1930) πŸ§›-- it became one of Universal's most successful productions ever.

⏰ It's , and we're highlighting the '88 Santarsiero Atlantis Roadster this week.

In July of 1988, eleven years after the death of Elvis Presley, a Nashville radio station decided to host a contest... offering $1 million to anyone who could prove Elvis Presley was still alive. πŸ‘€

The station stated, β€œHopefully, the $1 million reward will persuade Elvis to surface or put all the controversy over his death to rest.” Unsurprisingly, Presley was never brought to the Nashville studio and the reward was never given out.

⏰ It's , and today we're showcasing the '54 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster.

1954 was an exciting year for the automotive industry! This was the year that Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company merged to form the American Motors Corporation ( AMC ). πŸš—

American Motors' production line included small cars, intermediate and full-sized cars, and early four-wheel drive variants of the Eagle and the Jeep Wagoneer - the first true crossovers in the U.S. market!

After periods of intermittent independent success, Chrysler ultimately acquired the company in 1987.

We love this article that was written about our museum!

⏰ It's , and today we're showcasing the '38 Bantam Boulevard Delivery Truck.

So what happened in 1938? Orson Welles's radio adaptation of The War of the Worlds was broadcast on radio! πŸ“»

The War of the Worlds was a radio adaption of the H.G. Wells' novel of the same name, a science fiction novel about an alien invasion. πŸ‘½

Though the radio broadcast began with an announcement letting listeners know it was not an actual news broadcast, many missed the disclaimer, reportedly causing mass panic in the eastern United States.

However, there's no proof that widespread panic actually *did* ensue. It's speculated that many of the reports were made up by newspapers who had been angry that the booming business of radio was increasingly taking a large portion of their ad revenue.

🧠 Did you know? Electric cars aren't a new concept. In fact, they've been produced since 1900.

The Detroit Electric was an electric car produced by the Anderson Electric Car Company in Detroit, Michigan. From 1907 to 1939 the company built a grand total of 13,000 cars.

πŸ’₯Fun fact: The Detroit Electric was mainly sold to women drivers and physicians who wanted to avoid the physically demanding hand cranking of the engine required with early internal combustion engine cars.

As improved internal combustion engine automobiles became more common and inexpensive, sales of the Detroit Electric dropped in the 1920s, but the company stayed in business producing them until after the stock market crash of 1929.

πŸš— It's , and we've got a fun one for you this week.

Production of this luxury ride occurred in only 3 cities - Chicago being one of them! - and stopped in 1954. With less than 200 of these bad boys produced, it's safe to say this isn't a car you'll see every day.
