THE ISIS COORDINATES (1990). Artist Jennell Jaquays. Acrylic on wood panel. Cover artwork for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game adventure by West End Games.
Today is Jennell Jaquays Day, which celebrates Jennell’s amazing contributions as an artist and game designer. This painting is one of many that Rebecca Heineman, Jennell’s loving spouse, donated to our museum shortly before Rebecca’s passing in order to help preserve Jennell’s legacy and celebrate her talents.
Jennell Jaquays, born October 14, 1956, not only illustrated amazing cover and interior artwork for several tabletop RPGs including Ghostbusters and Dungeons and Dragons, but she also designed, wrote, and created many tabletop RPG adventures including Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia for Judges Guild. She further created, wrote, and illustrated The Dungeoneer, one of the first RPG fanzines. In addition to her prolific career in tabletop illustration and design, she was heavily involved in video game design and illustration including her work for Coleco, Interplay Entertainment, and Id Software. Jennell sadly passed away January 10, 2024.

Our first EGG CON is now over and what an amazing experience it was! We truly appreciate all who visited us and enjoyed the amazing original artwork. A big thank you to Erik and Heidi for the invitation and for the title of Special Guest. The volunteers and staff also did an incredible job. Thank you. The chance to see old friends and make new ones is always a bonus at conventions and this one certainly did not disappoint. While I took several photos and have many memories, I leave you with a photo of an ink drawing by Chet Minton-Artist of one of the coolest looking orcs we have ever seen. Thanks, Chet!

Artist Dee Barnett (c. 1992). Ink on paper. Original interior production artwork used in TSR’s Slave Tribes, a Dark Sun campaign setting accessory. The artwork is modeled after Brom’s cover artwork, and appears atop pages 4 and 5 of book’s Introduction.
About the artist: Dee Barnett worked at TSR as an artist and graphic designer from 1990 to about 2002. Per my research, she is a bit of an unsung TSR hero. While her artwork and contributions may not be readily recognized, she provided interior and exterior artwork for many of TSR’s Dungeons and Dragons projects including Dark Sun, 2e Psionics Handbook, Planescape, Birthright, DragonLance, TSR store displays, and several others!
