When David Gista proposed A La Française to the team, we were excited to see the show he’d put together. He did not disappoint. It’s a stunning exhibition. David put a few of his own pieces in the exhibit, but he really wanted to highlight the work of his friends and colleagues in France.

This weekend we had the pleasure of hosting guests for the opening of A La Française: The French Way. Philippe Berthommier is one of the artists we're happy to present in this latest exhibit. You can see his work on display now through the end of the year.

A Chicago-born sculptor, Jill King looks at topographical images of hurricanes and Hubble Space telescope images for inspiration. Her work highlights the intricacy of the natural world, representing inner growth and transformation. She says, "I am a child of the cosmos who often sails into the starry vastness, pulling out forms and colors that embody the shapes and patterns of the galactic universe. My organic sculptures highlight the glory and intricacy of the natural world and represent inner growth and transformation."

Photographer John Griebsch says "My aerial photographs present a sense of selective design applied to an extremely small and specific area of the vast landscape over which I fly. I find the need to make geographical sense of the earth, as well as the need to make visual sense of a photograph."

Dawn Brennan says "My one consistent life goal is to discover the truth about the seen world, and how appearances reveal underlying forces and structures. Whatever ideas I might have in my work, they are understood and expressed through the detail and particularity of the seen world."

Romanian-born artist Andreea Zimbru uses different techniques incorporating oils, collages and graffiti spray paint to achieve a bold effect on the canvas. Her main subject of interest is "related to the quotidian, the daily life, which may seem common but through painting, it presents a new vision of the present, evoking hidden aspects of reality and generating a different perspective of the human existence."
"Picture Day" by .zimbru is a 23.6 × 31.4 ″ mixed media oil on canvas and "Mask Situation I" is a 35 × 35 ″ mixed media oil on canvas.
Nick Bridge is one of the artists now on display in our Paradigm exhibit. He starts many of his oil paintings with a collage. He uses images that he's captured over the years in his initial collage. Once he's pleased with the composition of the collage, he transitions to the canvas to create an oil painting.

Chicago artist Kathy Blankley-Roman says she explores texture and gesture in her paintings. She draws inspiration from everything around her: lyrics, feelings, haiku moments, nature, and other things that take her breath away. In his Fortification Series, reimagines his experience of a 2015 trip to Morocco through the creation of grids and perspectives. The pieces are suggestive of fortifications and aerial views enriched using textural lines, inscriptions and cutouts. Shellac applied as a finishing layer amplifies the vibrancy of color and texture.

Photographer Lisa Frank says she is looking to communicate flashes of momentary connectedness with nature through her work. "Through my artwork I explore themes related to environment, nature, pattern and place. My work begins with a deeply felt connection to the natural world and rises up from my exploration of it."

Gaby Silva Bavio says she likes to experiment with different techniques. "Lately water and gelatinous substances have inspired me, by their movement, and by the lights and colors of the particles captured in them. I am working on canvas and oil, but I also find exciting to work on thick paper, acrylic, watercolor, and ink pigments. I am basically an experimental artist. My studio is like of lab where I mix and try several media and surfaces to obtain the desired effect."
