COMING UP ON JUNE 20th

The Adirondack Coast Cultural Alliance (ACCA) hosts the 17th Annual Museum Day throughout Historic Clinton County on 20 June 2026, inviting visitors and residents to “be a tourist in your own backyard” and explore the area’s wealth of museums, galleries, and cultural organizations. For one day participating locations will offer demonstrations, tours, exhibits, hands-on activities, and more. Admission fees will vary from venue to venue. Area museums rely on generous donors to survive and promote our rich history.

Each museum has a unique story to tell and most operate with only volunteers. Museums are only possible because of the dedicated staff and volunteers at each venue. Please take some time to support our local history on Museum Day and throughout the summer. Check the Adirondack Coast Arts & History Guide for more details. The Guide is available at all venues and the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau (North Country Chamber of Commerce) located at 7061 US Rt. 9 in Plattsburgh, open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Always double check opening times as most museums are managed by volunteers and sometimes there are last minute changes to schedules.

As you may have heard, The Alice is looking for a new home for our storefront display fixture. Made with expert craftsmanship by Jim West, this piece has tons of potential for display or theatrical use! We are offering it at no cost to any organization that is willing to come get it. The windows can be removed and the sections taken apart for transportation.

We are thrilled to announce an Alice lecture series celebrating America 250! Three speakers will offer us new insights and perspectives on the people, objects and legends of the revolutionary and early American period and how we create, celebrate and make use of our history and national memory.

Join us in June for Nothing Caricatured: Early Reenactments of the American Revolution with Dr. Maeve Kane, in August for George Washington's Relics and Revolutionary War Memory with Dr. Jamie L. Brummit, and in September for The Truth About Baked Beans: An Edible History of New England with Meg Muckenhoupt. All talks will be held in the museum's third floor ballroom and are free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.

In the decades of resistance leading up to the Revolution, Americans throughout the colonies began boycotting the importation of British goods in protest of increased taxation on everyday items. Women played an important role in this political movement by producing domestic alternatives to imported goods. In the 1760s and 70s, women throughout New England gathered for spinning bees and produced thread and yarn to be turned into homespun cloth.

As part of our commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, we would like to host an 18th-century inspired spinning bee here at the Alice on June 20 (in the spirit of the original events, there would be refreshments and prizes!) If you think you might be interested in participating, please contact Leni at [email protected]. No firm commitment is required at this time; we're just trying to get a sense of the level of interest. Please help spread the word among your fellow spinners!

We're so excited at the level of interest this has gotten already! Friday afternoon open MahJongg sessions at the Alice, 12:30-3:00 PM starting on June 5th. RSVP to Anne Bombard at at (315) 778-7304 by Wednesday each week to claim your spot in that Friday's session. As always at the Alice, there'll be tea and snacks!

Tiles & Tea at the Alice! MahJongg players, join us on Fridays starting June 5, 2026. This is an open play session for people who know how to play (NMJL rules). Please bring your 2026 NMJL card. The Adirondack Cultural Coast Alliance and the Clinton County Historical Association in partnership with the Champlain Centre on Smithfield Boulevard, Plattsburgh, are pleased to announce a new event at the Champlain Centre: HISTORY DAY at the MALL on May 16th from 11 am to 3 pm.

Museums and Town & Village Historians from across Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties will be at the mall ready to share our area’s rich and vibrant history, and how it connects with the broader world. This event is free and open to the public. Come out and meet your area’s local historians and learn more about your local history!
