Happy Labor Day đșđž
After more than 80 years of life, I have come to understand that there is dignity in work â in all work.
Whether your hands hold a paintbrush, a hammer, a pen, a broom, a steering wheel, a stethoscope, or the hand of someone who needs you, the work we do matters. Every craft, every profession, every honest dayâs labor contributes something to the lives of others and to the communities we call home.
I have always had tremendous compassion and respect for working people. Iâve seen how hard people work to provide for their families, build something meaningful, serve their communities, and create a better tomorrow. Often, the people doing the most important work are not the ones receiving applause. But their contribution is no less valuable.
And I am still working too. â€ïž
At my age, I could probably put down the paintbrush and say, âThatâs enough.â But I donât believe Iâm finished yet. As long as I am blessed with the ability to create, I want to keep painting, keep opening the doors of the Gallery of Dreams, keep meeting people, and keep finding ways to bring a little more hope, beauty, value, and life into my community.
Work is so much more than earning a living. At its very best, it is one of the ways we give something of ourselves to the world.
So today, I celebrate the builders, the artists, the caregivers, the teachers, the tradesmen and women, the business owners, the laborers, the dreamers â and everyone who gets up and keeps going.
Whatever your craft may be, your work matters.
