Biography: Doyle's painting subjects are mostly floral still lifes and coastal marine scenes. He mentored Jean-Michel Basquiat briefly in the early 80's and he remains an avid collector of both Basquiat and Avery. Doyle's character is brisk and virile to an extraordinary degree, even with the shadow of eventual deafness hovering over him. He m

akes and stays friends with many for whom his art is unintelligible. His charisma triumphs over social differences and he speaks with enthusiasm about other writers and artists. Determined to enjoy life, and full of boyhood curiosity and gaiety, he reaches out for life's exquisite moments. There's a deepness in his temperament noticeable to intimates. Despite his power of grasping essential knowledge, Doyle remains unsophisticated, taking people as they come without discriminating status issues. Generous to a fault, the artist is unspoiled by success.
