MacCallum More Museum & Gardens celebrates history, art, and gardens in Chase City. Come and visit!

We preserve the past and inspire community through exhibits, education, and special events. Historical home, six acres of beautiful gardens and a museum that houses a large Native American Artifact Collection. local memorabilia, and Art Gallery along with statues and fountains and ponds throughout the gardens.

🎨 We’re excited to welcome watercolor artist Penny Speidel to the MMMG Gift Shop!

Penny grew up surrounded by art as the daughter of a portrait painter and spent much of her childhood watching her father work. After a 42-year career in education, she returned to painting in retirement and rediscovered her love of watercolor.

Travel, nature, and the beauty of everyday life continue to inspire her work, and we’re especially pleased to share that Penny also has a painting included in this year’s Juried Art Show at MacCallum More.

You can now find a beautiful collection of 7 floral watercolor notecards featuring Penny’s artwork in the Gift Shop. The cards are larger-sized, blank inside, and perfect for sending a thoughtful note or keeping as a little piece of art.

Stop by and take a look at Penny’s work in both the Juried Art Show and the MMMG Gift Shop. 💚

Every year at Trunk or Treat, we hear the same thing: “We miss Trunk or Treat on Main Street!”

Well… WE HEARD YOU! 🙌 And this year, Trunk or Treat is coming BACK to Main Street! 🎉

📍 Main Street — 2nd Street to 5th Street

🎃 HANDING OUT CANDY?
Get your decorations up and be ready to hand out candy by 5:30 PM! Vehicles may park first come, first served in the parking spaces in front of the Estes Center and First Citizens Bank on both sides of Main Street.

🚧 IMPORTANT: Main Street will be closed between 2nd and 5th Streets from 6–8 PM for Trunk or Treat.

🎨 The 2026 Juried Art Show Has Been Extended!

There's still time to enjoy this year's Juried Art Show at MacCallum More! The exhibition will now remain on view through November 6.

“SEPTEMBER ORCHARD” by Eldridge Bagley 1996 Oil on canvas 18” x 24”
Early autumn ushers in the harvesting of certain fruits, including apples. I envisioned the setting for this painting as being in the cool early morning hours. My memories of various old farm houses inspired the homestead featured in the painting. There are likely other family members who are helping with the picking. At least, I would hope so.
The painting “September Orchard” is in a private collection and was not reproduced as a limited edition print.

🤓Journey Into Prehistory at MacCallum More

Did you know one of MMMG’s most remarkable collections began with a single arrowhead found by a 10-year-old boy on North Main Street in Chase City?

Arthur H. Robertson went on to build a collection of approximately 50,000 Native American artifacts, with nearly all of them originating in Mecklenburg County.

Today, visitors can see highlights from the collection in the MacCallum More Museum, including ancient projectile points, soapstone cooking vessels, crystal points, and a chunkey stone connected to a traditional Native American game.

Some of the collection includes rare Clovis points dating back thousands of years, offering a glimpse into the lives of people who lived in this region long before us.
