This cartoon is by E.H. Shepard was published on August 8, 1945 on p. 119 of Punch. It shows Clio, the Greek muse of history, offering thanks to Churchill from a grateful nation, which had just voted massively for labour. Churchill was dumped as Prime Minister in the ‘45 elections. He represented an open, traditionally liberal outlook but Britain's future was to be inward looking, socialistic and the abandonment of Churchill 's "broad sunlit uplands". They have never recovered from the inevitable failure of Socialism. They flounder like a dying fish gasping for a future.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Lady Jane Williams of Elvel over the weekend. The mother of the Archbishop of Canteberry and a personal secretary to Sir Winston S. Churchill. She was an honorary member of the International Churchill Society. We met at the 2017 Churchill Conference in NYC where she shared some amusing and amazing stories of her time working for the Great Man. A warm and engaging lady. Lady Williams of Elvel, died peacefully at her London home on July 15. Lady Williams was among the most prominent of the last surviving members of Sir Winston’s personal staff.
