This summer, ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜บ ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ด ๐˜–๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜™๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎbrings together works by Jesse Redwin Bardin, Daniel Douke, Charles Quest, Richard Stenhouse, Oscar Bluemner, Robert Peterson, Victor Richardson, and Ramon Urban. While each artist offers a distinct visual voice, together they create a rich dialogue that celebrates the diversity of approaches, perspectives, and histories that shape the exhibition.

Robert Peterson's drawing THREE LEMONS METAL BOWL (pictured) offers a moment of quiet focus within the group. Born deaf, Peterson developed an acute sensitivity to visual observation. His drawings of fruit, vegetables, and everyday foods transform familiar subjects into thoughtful studies of light, form, and stillness, rewarding those willing to slow down and look closely.

One of the things I admire most about Lee Hall's work is her ability to transform a specific place into something timeless.

๐˜˜๐˜ถ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ณ๐˜บ ๐˜”๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ was inspired by an abandoned granite quarry in Maine, a subject Hall returned to again and again, exploring its shifting light, atmosphere, and geometry through abstraction. Rather than describing the landscape, she distilled its essence. Hall turns stone, shadow, and morning light into sweeping planes of color and gesture.

A celebrated Abstract Expressionist, educator, and former president of RISD, Hall stood among the artists of the New York School while forging a voice entirely her own. Her landscapes do not depict nature so much as evoke its presence, inviting us to experience the quiet drama of light moving across the land.

On Juneteenth, we celebrate the stories, resilience, and cultural legacy that continue to shape our communities.

Few artists captured the richness of Black American life with greater poetry than Romare Bearden, whose work remains a powerful reflection on memory, music, family, and place.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential American artists of the twentieth century, Bearden's legacy continues to resonate through generations of artists, collectors, and institutions.

I was fortunate to count Romare as a close friend. His wisdom and artistic excellence has left a lasting impression on both my life and my career.
