Ever wonder about what came before the residential streets and modern New Castle landmarks like the Bell School, the Train Station, and the Church of St. Mary the Virgin? Join our Greeley Farm Walking Tour on Saturday at 11am to learn how these spots evolved from wetland and forest to farmland to a suburban town center. This guided tour traverses sidewalks and woodland trails to uncover the human and ecological history of our community! Tickets are still available, but be aware, the path includes rough and hilly terrain.

Our final Botanical Drawing Workshop with Sarah Wry is sold out! But don't worry - there are plenty of other ways to celebrate the intersection of our local environment, history, and art. Sarah's work is on view in our Fall Featured Artist exhibition, 'Botanicals & Birds,' through October 31, and there are still spots available on our Greeley Farm Walking Tour this Saturday.

We added an additional date of our Greeley Farm Walking Tour! Join us this Saturday, October 10, at 11 am for a guided stroll through the land that once made up Horace Greeley's 78-acre New Castle farm. Along the way, discover the fascinating history behind of our town's most iconic sites. This tour includes both rocky terrain and steep inclines, and it takes place rain or shine. In addition to our regular open hours this week (Thu, Fri, Sat, 11am - 3pm), we'll be opening our doors during tonight's Fall Cultural Community Festival and Longest Table event! Come in FREE 5:30pm - 7:30pm to see selections from our core collection of New Castle History alongside our incredible Fall Featured Artist exhibition, 'Botanicals & Birds,' featuring recent works by New Castle artist Sarah Wry. We can't wait to celebrate our community's past and present with you tonight!

Our first botanical drawing workshop is this Friday! There's still time to sign up. Whether you're a total beginner or looking to hone your skills, our Fall Featured Artist Sarah Wry will provide you with expert instruction. Use basic shapes and gesture lines, learn contour drawing with an emphasis on proportion, and explore techniques such as foreshortening, perspective, and line weight. Workshops take place 10am - 12pm on Fridays, September 25, October 2, and October 9. Join us for one workshop or attend all three!

Join us October 3 for The Great New Castle Hunt, a one-of-a-kind competitive scavenger hunt presented by NCHS in collaboration with the creative minds at cityHUNT. Using the cityHUNT interactive mobile platform on their smartphones, teams will explore New Castle by car and on foot as they solve clues, complete fun challenges, answer trivia, and uncover the rich history, hidden gems, and fascinating stories that make our community unique. The event concludes with a BBQ reception at the Greeley House! For ages 21+ only.

Did you miss us? After a busy August behind the scenes, we're preparing to reopen on Saturday, September 5! Join us for our first ever Fall Featured Artist exhibition, 'Botanicals & Birds,' featuring recent works by local artist Sarah Wry. Sarah's watercolor and graphite works will be exhibited in the beautiful rooms of the historic Greeley House and alongside historic objects from our collection. Mark you calendars for this can't-miss exhibition, open September 5 - October 31!
