AMAZING NEWS! Two weeks from today, we are opening what may be our biggest and most ambitious exhibit ever! Forging Liberty will enable Champaign County to experience America's 250th birthday by coming into direct contact with the documents that forged our nation. Through a private collection, unseen publicly, visitors will experience 21 authentic documents and artifacts that played a direct role in the fight for independence. Artifacts include Paul Revere's famous engraving of the Boston Massacre, letters from George Washington and many other founding fathers, a 1776 copy of Thomas Paine's Common Sense, war maps, King George III's response to the call for independence, and a rare 1840s copy of the Declaration of Independence. This is a must-attend event in partnership with the Champaign Public Library. Tickets are FREE, but advance tickets are highly encouraged. Timed tickets are available at www.champaigncountyhistory.org. Make plans today to join us June 18-21st for this special experience.

Wilber found himself at the AM Vets Post #3 in Champaign. Located at 205 W Hill Street in downtown Champaign. Post #3 dates back to 1947, when Harry Truman signed Public Law 216, making AMVETS the first World War II organization to be chartered by Congress. Its early members included: Stan Zagol, president, Virginia Applegate, Karl Kubitz, Robert Chejlava, and Ralph Gulder. The organization still holds events and services every year, most recently being their Memorial Day service at Grandview Memorial Gardens west of Champaign.
