Chambersburg Heritage Center & Gift Shop The Chambersburg Heritage Center is an interpretive center, exploring five areas of historical merit in Chambersburg and Franklin County.

The Heritage Center & Gift Shop at 100 Lincoln Way East is an excellent place to explore the history and culture of the area. This historic building located on the southeast corner of Chambersburg’s Memorial Square in the National Historic District is a renovated 1915 marble bank building, the former Valley National Bank. The Chambersburg Heritage Center opens the door to the distinctive history of Franklin County and its communities.

We love having visitors at the Heritage Center Museum so we can share Chambersburg history! Whether visitors are local, from other states ...or from other countries ...it's always a pleasure! Today we were happy to welcome students from CASHS German Exchange Program. These students mostly originate from the area of Bavaria. It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone! 🙂

We have a NEW display at the Heritage Center Museum! We're all about Chambersburg history and love to share interesting tidbits. This display is about the Special Deputy Sheriff Program from the 1960s/1970s. I'm especially proud of this display because the uniform and accessories belonged to my Dad who passed away about 2 years ago at the age of 93. I'm so glad to be able to share it with the community! Stop by and check it out!

Something new! The Heritage Center now has a table across from our Gift Shop displaying items from the Foundry Art Market. This is just a sampling of what you can find at the Foundry Art Market, which is located just across the square at 54 Lincoln Way West. If you are visiting the Heritage Center and you see an item on the display table that you wish to purchase from the Foundry, you can simply use your cell phone to capture the QR Code on the table sign to go to the Foundry’s website and purchase the item online. Show proof of purchase to the Heritage Center Staff, and we will bag it up for you! It’s that simple. And, of course, don’t forget to shop the Heritage Center Gift Shop for all of your Chambersburg related gift items …and take a tour of our Museum to learn more about this interesting and historic town!

The heat is on! When it’s hot outside and you need a COOL place to go, stop by the Heritage Center Museum and Gift Shop! Not only do the gorgeous marble walls of the building keep the place “cool”, but there are lots of “cool” displays to see in the Museum and plenty of “cool” items to browse in our Gift Shop! We’re open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. If you come to visit …that would be so cool! 😉

HISTORICAL TIDBIT: Did you know that the Heritage Center was originally built to be a bank? That’s right! It was built in 1915 as the Valley National Bank and was used for this purpose until the 1970s. After that, the building was used for various purposes until it became the Heritage Center in 2004. The building is constructed of marble that was transported from the state of Georgia in order for it to be fireproof. You can still view the bank vault at the back of the museum, which now houses our printing press display.
