The Museum of Eastern Shore Life, located on the grounds of the Q.A. County 4-H Park, will be open to visitors on Saturday, May 2, from 1 til 4 pm.

The featured items for the month of May are a pair of safes. One of the safes belonged to Joseph R. Boyles and was donated to the museum by his family. The safes are part of the museum’s collection of antique business machines and documents that date back many decades ago.

The combination for one safe is known but the combination for the other is not known. The museum’s staff are curious to know what may be inside! Do we have any talented safe-crackers out there? Come and give it a try!

The museum will be open for visitors on the first Saturday of each month from May to October plus several days during the week of the Queen Anne’s County Fair in August.

The Museum recently hosted some unusual guests - K9 Nose Work dogs and their owners.
Multiple items with different scents were hidden throughout the Museum buildings, then owners sent their trained canines in to ferret out the items. The dogs worked, and fun was had by everyone!
For more information about the group and their contests, check the website at https://www.NACSW.net - which stands for National Association of Canine Nose Work.

The Museum of Eastern Shore Life will be open to visitors on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 1 – 4pm. The museum’s featured theme for October is recognition of the area’s renowned agricultural industry which began several hundred years ago.

Many small privately owned farms and many large farms were in existence all over Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the museum has lots of antique farm equipment on display.

A collection of journals from about 40 years ago provides antique photos and stories about the various types of agriculture that existed all over the USA and Canada many years ago. The publication is titled “Small Farmer’s Journal” and was published quarterly.

Each edition of the journal featured a particular theme for that edition so the photos and stories were focused on the theme ---- such as farms with live animals, farms growing fruits or vegetables, etc.

Livestock included animals such as cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep and poultry. Dairy farming was quite common but Delmarva became renowned for its huge poultry industry. Corn has always been the leading ground crop produced in this area.

There is no admission fee for visitors but donations are always sincerely appreciated.

The museum is located at the QAC 4--H Park on state route 18 at Dulin Clark Rd. between Centreville and Queenstown.
