It's that time of year again. I have to say, I helped set this display up at our 2019 Model Train Expo, and it really is a neat display. It nicely shows off all the main model railroad scales and gauges that are in use.

Good show for a good cause.

Last night, the CRM&HA welcomed Wayne Fowler as our guest speaker.

Wayne is a retired CSX Engineer who started railroading 39 years ago with the Pickens Railroad.

The group had a really good time hearing stories of railroading from the perspective of the engineer and other roles Wayne has played in his career. It was also interesting hearing how the changes that happen higher up in management affect those at the ground level.

Hopefully, Wayne will join us again sometime down the road.

Hey there friends and followers. We really hope that October is treating you well.

Watch out for the little ones and their escorts on Halloween this week.

Next week, before our regular business meeting, we will have a guest speaker. He is Wayne Fowler, a CSX engineer with 39 years of experience. It should be a very interesting presentation, from the cab perspective of things.

Hope to see you all there.

Today we see the Norfolk Southern Office Car Special as train number NS 955-16 making a northbound run in Central, SC with the NS #8099 GE ES44AC ( Southern Railway ) Heritage Unit leading. What a beautiful locomotive from CSXT!

Thank you to the law enforcement officers from multiple agencies and City of Huntington, WV Mayor for joining us today to celebrate the debut of the Spirit of Our Law Enforcement locomotive. It was especially meaningful to be joined by officers who are relatives of some of the CSX employees who assisted with the locomotive. #CSXPrideinService #ProtectandServe

So, how is everyone enjoying this great weather this week?

Mid May, summer break is coming quick for the area schools, then the fun of trying to find things to do that are close and cheap to keep the kids entertained.

On Saturdays, you can always come visit us at the CRM. We are open every Saturday from 9am till 2pm and the price is right - free for all.

Maybe while you are here, you can catch a game at the ball field.

Not sure if this affects any of our followers, but putting it out there anyway.

Due to the weather we have canceled, but will reschedule Train Day for a later date.

We need to keep the safety and comfort of the visiting public in mind.

Thanks

A hundred and fifty years ago this week, workers with the Central Pacific (later SP then UP) and the Union Pacific Railroads completed track-age connecting the West Coast to the Great Plains allowing travel from the Mississippi River basin through the Rocky Mountains to California and the west.

Many men and women took part in the work, both on the rails themselves and supporting roles.

It was said to be impossible - that the mountains were impassible...

Glad they proved the naysayers wrong...

This morning in Appomattox, VA the Norfolk Southern Office Car Special was involved in a grade crossing accident with a vehicle.

There we no injuries reported to anyone on the train, however the 65 year old driver lost her life in the accident. We here are the CRM are not going to post the video or pictures of the accident, nor speculate on why this happened.

All we will say is to be safe when on or near railroad crossings. Trains cannot stop on a dime if there is an emergency on the tracks.

So, tomorrow is the big day! The Central Railroad Festival is looking to be a great day. No rain tonight, no rain tomorrow. Little bit a of a breeze, so things should not be flying away, BUT - no cloud cover will cause Heat and Sunburn issues.

Cover up with light colored and lightweight clothing, wear sunscreen, drink LOTS of Water to stay hydrated and hide out in air conditioning if possible.

We will be open all day, from 10am - 5pm, but I expect that we will be pretty busy all day. Stop by and say hi and watch some small scale trains go by.
