So, how is everyone enjoying this great weather this week?

Mid May, summer break is coming quick for the area schools, then the fun of trying to find things to do that are close and cheap to keep the kids entertained.

On Saturdays, you can always come visit us at the CRM. We are open every Saturday from 9am till 2pm and the price is right - free for all.

Maybe while you are here, you can catch a game at the ball field.

Not sure if this affects any of our followers, but putting it out there anyway.

Due to the weather we have canceled, but will reschedule Train Day for a later date.

We need to keep the safety and comfort of the visiting public in mind.

Thanks
Dave

A hundred and fifty years ago this week, workers with the Central Pacific (later SP then UP) and the Union Pacific Railroads completed track-age connecting the West Coast to the Great Plains allowing travel from the Mississippi River basin through the Rocky Mountains to California and the west.

Many men and women took part in the work, both on the rails themselves and supporting roles.

It was said to be impossible - that the mountains were impassible...

Glad they proved the naysayers wrong...

So, our VP of Marketing - John Johnston, sent me this today. He quickly snapped it during our open house during the Central RR Festival this past weekend.

I love this photo, as it shows some of our visitors enjoying the day and relaxing for a bit. Also, it shows that kids of all ages can find something to enjoy at our Museum.

This morning in Appomattox, VA the Norfolk Southern Office Car Special was involved in a grade crossing accident with a vehicle.

There we no injuries reported to anyone on the train, however the 65 year old driver lost her life in the accident. We here are the CRM are not going to post the video or pictures of the accident, nor speculate on why this happened.

All we will say is to be safe when on or near railroad crossings. Trains cannot stop on a dime if there is an emergency on the tracks.

So, tomorrow is the big day! The Central Railroad Festival is looking to be a great day. No rain tonight, no rain tomorrow. Little bit a of a breeze, so things should not be flying away, BUT - no cloud cover will cause Heat and Sunburn issues.

Cover up with light colored and lightweight clothing, wear sunscreen, drink LOTS of Water to stay hydrated and hide out in air conditioning if possible.

We will be open all day, from 10am - 5pm, but I expect that we will be pretty busy all day. Stop by and say hi and watch some small scale trains go by.

Here are some photos that our Club Secretary - Sage took of yesterdays Palmetto Division visit to the CRM: https://www.crmha.org/photo-gallery/2019-ser-nmra-visit-gallery/

On March 30, 2019, we hosted several members of the Palmetto Division of the South East Region of the NMRA for a special afternoon Ops session. At one point, we had 9 Operators, as well as 3 Yardmasters running trains. Great afternoon of trains and fun.

Had a great afternoon hosting members from the South East Region of the NMRA for a special operations session today.

The SER held their quarterly meeting just up the road at SWU, dined in Central and then had the opportunity to visit the CRM or two of our members home layouts for some entertaining operations and socializing.

Alright CRM readers, followers and anyone else out there, I need some help.

Our wonderful Marketing Director and guy that answers the phones, John, has been getting calls all morning about an event here on Facebook regarding a train ride to the Central Railway Museum...

This is news to us, we didn't know anything about it. He assures me that NS or any other company did not lay tracks to our site last night, he also said we did not purchase any 1:1 scale equipment (although that would be great) to run said train.

I think another group put in our info. If someone that has seen that event / ad could point us in the right direction, that would be great.

Thanks!

Well, another show in the books. What a great couple days of trains and train collectibles.

After our show, the organizers always ask the Vendors, Exhibitors and the folks that worked the show what worked and what we can do better next year.

Well, I ask that of you folks - those that attended. What did you enjoy, what can do a bit better (if it is in our control), what did you wish we had or did?

Please, comment below, so I can take your feedback to the organizers.

Thanks.
