🚢 Imagine Celina in the late 1800s and early 1900s…
Steamboats pulling into the landing, goods being unloaded, mail arriving, farmers shipping their products, and travelers coming and going along the Cumberland River.
Before highways and automobiles, the river was one of Clay County’s most important ways to travel and transport goods. Celina’s location at the meeting of the Cumberland and Obey Rivers made our town an important stop along the Upper Cumberland.
It’s hard to imagine today, but there was once a time when seeing a steamboat pull into Celina was simply part of everyday life.
Today, pieces of that history live on through photographs, stories, and artifacts preserved at the Clay County Museum.
