Les Cheneaux Historical Association Les Cheneaux Historical Association is a Non-Profit. The Les Cheneaux Historical Museum is unique. The O.M.

The Mission of the Les Cheneaux Historical Association is to promote awareness of the historical significance of the Les Cheneaux Islands Area & to preserve its rich traditions & maritime heritage. It is comprised of two buildings, one a log cabin, donated by Nancy Avery Follansbee, depicting the early days of settlement in the area when lumbering was an important industry. Along with the lumbering, was the wonderful fishing, creating the early tourist industry for the many thriving hotels in the area. Of course the women also kept very busy with quilting, weaving, and other activities. Reif Boathouse (circa 1920s) is home to displays of vintage boats, marine artifacts, antique outboard motors, historic photos of area boating, a boat building workshop, and a gift shop.

Looking for winter photos! Do you have pictures of the Les Cheneaux Area during winter? Maybe from when you were growing up or that your parents saved, that year the snow was unreal, or when Snowsfest was held on the ice? We’d love to see them and maybe hang them in the museums! Celebrate an Old Fashioned Christmas at the Les Cheneaux Historical Association’s Festival of Trees! It’s free to attend and free to participate!

Individuals, families, businesses and organizations are invited to donate a fully decorated 4 foot tree, wreath, or other centerpiece for the silent auction. All auction proceeds benefit the museum and future programming.

Need a tree to decorate? We've got you covered. Please message us or call the museum to reserve one and arrange a pickup or drop off time. The tree theme is your choice for both lights and decorations. Once complete, bring your decorated tree back to the museum November 16 through November 20, between 9 am and 2 pm. Or contact us for evening times, we are happy to accomodate.

Festival hours:
November 27: Noon to 8 pm
November 28 and 29: Noon to 5 pm
December 4, 5 and 6: Noon to 5 pm

Enjoy children’s crafts, refreshments and a visit with Santa on November 27 from 6 to 8 pm!

Final auction bids close December 6 at 4:30 pm. All purchased items must be picked up by Wednesday, December 9.

Jeni Roosen is representing the LCHA downstate today for the Save Michigan History Disaster Response Workshop, hosted by the Archives of Michigan with the Northeast Document Conservation Center.

She is learning how to prepare for emergencies, protect museum collections and respond when fire, water or other disasters threaten historic materials.

Training like this helps us better protect and preserve Les Cheneaux history for the future.
