Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the Nagel B-24 Crash. The accident took place while 2LT Joseph Nagel attempted to take off in B-24J #42-95580 for a training mission. The accident took place about a half mile from the Casper Army Air Base. Three of the eight crew members aboard survived.

The Veterans Museum along with members of the Colorado Aviation Archaeology Program surveyed the crash site in 2017. (Pictures: Larry Liebrecht)

This small mirror was issued to help military personnel signal for help in case of an emergency, like getting stranded in a life raft. Mirrors like these were included in emergency kits issued to pilots and sailors during WWII. Our mirror from the Hoke Collection was manufactured by General Electric.

Today we honor those Americans who were held as Prisoners of War and those who remain missing in action.

Staff Sergeant Leonard Robinson served in the Coastal Artillery in the Philippines before surviving some of the worst horrors of WWII, including the Bataan Death March, before coming home and building a life in Casper, Wyoming. He devoted his life to the ministry and continued to serve the community and his fellow veterans throughout his life.

Artifact of the Week – WWI Dog Tags

These dog tags belonged to Private Robert Pou. Although assigned to a different unit at first, he transferred to the 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division. With the 308, Robert was part of the "Lost Battalion."

Until the dog-tags of WWII and later, these tags are circular with only the name, country and serial number listed. These are also suspended on a green cloth cord instead of metal.
