Every so often I get asked to do a henna job that I say yes to, but its been rare lately. This weekend I am going to do some henna for a group of high school graduates just up the street from my house at Sabago lake state park. I am really looking forward to it.

Not entirely sure why I needed to step back 100% from my career as a henna artist.

I was so engaged and in-love with the art form for over 15 years and then for 5 more I was just coasting. It was an amazing career in so many ways. I was paid to travel and teach, make art that brought joy to all sorts of people. I got to work for 4 months and take the rest of the year off. But I got burnt out. I never had a weekend free in the summer to do what people do in the summer. I was working my body so hard I was hurting all over. I had to constantly be part of social media and I was loosing my life force energy.

So I stopped. I moved on.

I deepened my love with medicinal plants and dove head first into herbalism and plant medicines. I have been studying and learning from these wise elders for 6 years now and I've become acutely aware, or reminded really, that henna was the first plant as an adult that spoke to me really loudly. It called me to learn about the magic that plants offer us. Most of my work in henna was an homage to plants. So many of my designs where filled with flowers.

It's interesting as I look back I see that I built onto my careers and could have used the skills in the pervious career for the next. First I was a Potter, then Henna artist and now fledgling Herbalist. I would have loved to have my pottery adorned with henna patterns and my henna patterns be of herbs.

Anyway, I am not going to edit or meander on this post much. I just sort of feel a call once again to do some henna and who knows maybe some pots!

It's interesting to look back and see where I've been. Such a blessed life I get to live.

Thanks for reading.

I would love to know what you are currently falling in-love with.
