Some of you saw a flash of light across the sky this morning - much like what happened less than a week ago around relatively the same time of morning.

Here's what NASA officials have to say: "Close to 500 eyewitnesses in the southeastern United States have reported seeing a long duration fireball this morning at 6:52 AM Eastern Daylight Time (2019 April 4 10:52 UTC). An analysis of their accounts shows that this meteor is best characterized as an “earth grazer”, which are denoted by a slow entry speed and a long shallow trajectory through Earth’s atmosphere. In this case, the meteor became visible at an altitude of 60 miles above the South Carolina town of Blair and proceeded slightly north of east at a relatively leisurely pace of 31,000 miles per hour. Traversing over 100 miles through the atmosphere in 11 seconds, it finally ablated 45 miles above the North/South Carolina border south of the city of Rockingham."

March 29, 2019 Fireball

Did you see a fireball streak across the sky early this morning? According to officials at NASA, here's the scoop:

"More than 150 eyewitnesses in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and even North and South Carolina reported seeing a bright fireball this morning at 6:53 am EDT/5:53 CDT (2019 March 29 10:53 UTC). The meteor was also observed by one NASA all-sky camera in Tullahoma, TN.

Analysis of the eyewitness accounts and all-sky camera video indicates that the meteor began to ablate about 44 miles above the ground and 13 miles east of the town of Oneida, TN. It moved in a west-southwest direction at a speed of 53,000 miles per hour, covering a ground distance of 96 miles before burning out 25 miles over Carthage, TN."

Our astronomer has been moonlighting as an actor! He'll be premiering his new talents tonight with Pumphouse Players. Give him a 👍 or ❤️ to wish him luck!

David Dundee (pictured) and Bob Gossman are making their onstage debuts in FROST/NIXON, running this weekend and next. David and Bob can more usually be seen among a different type of "star" at Tellus Science Museum! Don't miss their grand premiere: http://bit.ly/2QcsE00

Community theatre is amazing because it brings together all kinds of people from different backgrounds and experience levels. We love seeing people step on stage for the first time or the two hundredth time (like Kip Henderson, starring as Richard Nixon). If you're interested in giving it a try, join us for auditions next Monday or Tuesday at 7:30 PM!
