A little throwback for the history books. A photo I entered years ago in the Shawano County Fair.

Throwback Thursday brings us to fire numbers. Back before the internet, pencil and paper were used to create maps for addresses within the Town. A Fire number at the road near the driveway was linked to a paper map kept in each fire truck. The map would show the location of the residence/business, the owner, the tenant (if not the owner), a telephone number, closest neighbor, closest location to pump water from and any other information pertinent to the property. The fire number maps were in numerical order but also owner sheets in alphabetical order linking them to the fire number.

Throwback Thursday brings us back to the year, 1946, when the Caroline Fire Department purchased a new 1946 Chevrolet fire truck from W.S. Darley & Co. That same year a petition to enlarge the coverage area. The following year, the Town of Grant took over the fire department to comply with state laws and insurance. From 1947 forward, Caroline Fire Department was know as the Town of Grant Fire Department. The graphics on the newest truck never changed and are still there today.
